Title: Started my most emotional resto bike
Post by: DoubleD on October 07, 2011, 02:46 PM
well  some of you    know  last year i found a couple of bikes  and 1 of them is from my old friend that died in 2005
he died  in the hospital  as a cause  from multiple scleroses

His name   rodney de koning :  oldschool  and new school rider

this is how i found his old Pk ripper

it has been used heavely by a bmx club  But its going back to his dad ( wich is a surprise)

as you can see the seatpost  is cracked  and its in horrible shape

I contacted twesnik  about this issue    and he told me   they   he would fix  the seatpost   cause he is  a alu welder

i got it back from him   and  also  he  got it powdered  silver/chrome

he really did a great job on it

this is the frame now

I saved some of the old parts, but most of them where gone

i will try  to keep you updated   on parts and the build itself

Yeah it will be   , rodney had this bike for his birthday  in 1983
there aint pictures anymore from the bike in its original state

i contacted his brother  that is also a  os biker, and he gave me some hints  on the parts  that he had on the bike

The fork is missing  that whas a landing gear
The  rims where  silver araya  whit  unknown hubs in them
The pedals where suntour  xc  That are still on the bike  but needs  restoratiion
The  bars   he could not remember
The seat   is a blue kashimax  seat   Thanks to JJR for donating it

so the Parts  that i have  are

Ripper frame
Silver araya 7x
Aerox stem   ( the original one that he had )
A nos 180 mm takagi   the og ones where bend
Blue tuff neck powerdisc  whit asco   chainring
Suntour pedals  ( In need of some good cages)

So   i need this  parts

Landing gear fork    stamped or unstamped
Seatpost
Grips   prefer blue
Decalset  as shown in the first picture

After the bike is done it will be handed over  to his Dad   as a surprise , he does not know anything of this

Only his brother  and sister in law

Today  i finaly  found the time  and mood  to do some work
I cleaned  up the sealed bottom bracket  that originaly came whi tthe bike and put it back into the Frame
and installed the Nos  takagi 180 opc   together whit the Blue tuffneck powerdisc and 43 tooth tuffneck chainring

I also started whit the suntour xc pedals
i took them apart    and cleaned the body's  and regreased them
Now  iam searching for some good  cages    i prefer nos  or repro  but some good used ones are also very welcome

Pics  coming up
