after mrs griff suggested today she might be prepared to get rid of her old MTB to make a bit of space in the house (bless her :smitten:) it appears that I may be able to squeeze another kid's bike into the house :daumenhoch:
now there are loads of 80s bikes I'd love to own given unlimited space and funds and although not my era am loving the look of a lot of 70s bikes too, but since I've got an 80s freestyler, an 80s racer, a mid-school tank and am always on a budget I can't help being tempted by the dark side of a lightweight new school bike to ride now & then :-\
seeing as i know even less about NS than old (and that that bar is not exactly set high) this is probably going to take a while, but am going to try and find out what suits
not exactly tall at 5'8" so doesn't have to be that long, but struggling with matching a bike on a screen to my 'riding style' - those of you who've seen me ride will know full well that I have yet to develop anything resembling style ;D
so far the least weird feeling NS bike I've tried was petequad's gypsy, but will try and get on a few before I begin properly searching
expect the usual barrage of dumb questions to follow....

The gypo frame is up for sale in the shop
-
After that there will be maybe just one more then. :LolLolLolLol: when housewares itwas just going tone the Haro
-
Good luck Griff :daumenhoch: usually if a women wants something removing its to replace it with something else she wants :knuppel2: :LolLolLolLol:

There are loads of second hand bargains about John, and as you won't be needing a 21" TT, even more availability, I would think 20-20.5 would be up your street.
An `enhanced' complete would be a good place to start, We the people, Subrosa, higher end new Haro's.
Would avoid GT (they ain't what they were!) and Kuwi, (race bikes)
Bill got a Mirraco (£350 RRP, 2 year old paper round usage) for £100 on ebay, ok, its brown and gold, but rides real nice.
I reckon it will improve your riding too.

:)20.5-20.75 would be just fine.Kuwi racebikes are good too,def avoid GT/Mongoose.
-
Kuwi are good, but not what he needs, but may not know that!!
-
Yep, Griff has officially even less style than me when he lands, and that's saying something....
My advice is bin the midschool tank John and club the fundage together for a decent second-hand COMPLETE newschool park bike. That pink prowler I had for a while (KHE summat or other - Jaymz has it now) I only paid £180 for it collected and it was super lightwieght and a 20" TT.
Personally I get the idea of a NS but I can't help but think a decent set-up midschool or close to midschool like I ride with a few actual "rider" mods like drive-train and brakes are as good a solution as any - just you wait till I turn up with a 25/9T gearing and I've taken a file to the rear drop-outs on the Badlander to fit a 14mm axle and welded some brake mounts onto the rear stays....... :uglystupid2: >:D  :2funny:
-
the mid (ish) school stuff rides ok but nowhere near as good as a NS bike, just my oppinion though :daumenhoch:
-
thanks guys for your input - was trawling until the early hours last night thanks to having the week off work
think 2nd hand complete is probably going to be the most economical route - already got some NS supra E wheels on the mongoose tank that are still practically new (bit heavy but seem bombproof) could either put them on or sell them on to help fund it
cheers
griff

Once you POP that new school cherry there's no going back griff.
I've now got 2. For park and ramps I've got the pink power (KHE Zenith LT harry main signature) and for track I've got an S&M RV which I Fooking adore. They both ride and behave beautifully and best of all my riding is going from strength to strength

KHE Zenith LT harry main signature
Yeah, that's what I meant to say :LolLolLolLol:

not at very keen on colour but might be worth a punt if it stays low?
of course there's the tiny issue of collection but LMK what you think to it :daumenhoch:
-
:) Go for something all chromoly and check the toptube size,a lot are 19.5/20 and only are mostly hi-tensile.Sure a good`un will pop up for you :daumenhoch:
-
is that str one not full cromo then...? from the spec in the listing I thought that only the bars were hi-ten..
that one's a 20.75"

being nosy big G,what is Mrs Griff's "old mtb"? i.e what era and make?
-
I have a we the people trust, and it's great to ride, it's a 2009 as well, so they should be cheap now :daumenhoch: i'm in the opposite situation, I have a new school and now I want to get an old school :LolLolLolLol:
-

it was from around 96, nothing fancy
think it was a townsend but was rebadged as a 'southern comfort' bike (I bought it cos I was working there for a bit)
decals came straight off it tho ;D

Griff, had a long chat with my brother last night about exactly the same thing. As soon as I told him about the antics at t1 and the boardroom he said ' do yourself a favour and get a new school, old schoolers look the biz, but ride like shit compared to the new'.
He started riding again about 6 years ago ( has given up at the mo because he's just had twins and my sister in law will cuts his nuts off if he damages himself again!) but loved every minute on the new.
Let me know how you get on mate, I'm on the hunt myself :daumenhoch:
-
Must admit i'm thinking of a new school rider , but i love the old school bikes , only time will tell ;)
-
still poking around on ebay when I should be asleep ::)
got to be up at 6 but got the 'fever' again ;D
