i have a
dc mx 900 caliper this was a rear i thiink cause it came with a rear post installed it also came with a front post (cause i wanted a front originally) i mounted it on the front post and it seems really short (the blocks dont really reach my rims very well are the front and rear caliplers different or am i missing something?

It depends what bike you are mounting it on as MX900's have 1 cm less reach than MX1000's.
It may just mean that you need the MX1000 for your particular frame or forks
