Post by: Discostu on October 20, 2011, 11:34 AM
Come on peeps. Tell us all what bmx was your first.

Mine was a mk1 super burner. I

Heh - mine was an Aero Freeway teardrop tubed job - saved up and bought all the bits seperate (Acorn mags n'all - the thin spoked ones).

Jumped it and the fooker snapped at the junction between the seattube and seatstays, nearly carved meself another a-nus.......

Got another cheap and lent it to a mate, went in the same place :)

Whoops! Sorry about putting this thread I'm the wrong section!  Good to know the rad police are about! :police: :LolLolLolLol:

It comes as no surprise that there is a lot of Raleigh burners listed.  It does amaze me that they had the monopoly on starter bikes but didn't seem to progress much from there.  They must of had the funds.

Anyway I will leave this going for a while before making a list up. The more info on your make and model the better as I can only go on the details given.   :daumenhoch:

It also appears that most peeps love their first ride even though it was a pos looking back now. You just can't take away that feeling of riding your first ever bmx. It was you and the bike as one. Just  magical!!!  :daumenhoch:

I think the Burner thing was more down to availability than anything else.  My mum and dad couldn't afford to buy a bike from a shop which is why i had the GS (a catalogue special along with the GLX or S i believe) they also sold them in Halfords which for most would've been peoples only bike shop in town?

just my take on it  :daumenhoch:

I had an 18" bmx, but my first 20" was a raleigh detroit from halfords, eventually stripped the stickers off and put a skyway streetbeat sticker on it ;D sold it for 30 quid to get some forks for my custom fit, which I sold  :D

Your probably right mr pickle. I had never heard of the gs. I have probably seen one though. All the burners were pretty much alike just different colours and specs. They had every price range covered. And you had a desirable burner just like your riding buddies even if yours was low end it didn't matter. It was the fact that you had a burner!!

On the other hand would I have one now? Mmm probably not.

But never say never!   :LolLolLolLol:

I have a lot of respect for the burner boys. Even though I like to give them a ribbing every so often!

On my birthday in 1984 i got one of these, metallic blue frame not chrome, tyres, saddle, grips & pads were yellow.
I sprayed it white in 85 with green forks + got some 3pc to replace the cotter pin jobbies, copy skyways in blue and some mks grafites. Finished it off with screw-on chipolata pegs & felt like I owned a haro master  :-[

Yeah, my brother and i raced there as kids, it was a superb track with a water jump near the finish line if i remember correctly. I might have a few photos but they would be at my parents house in France, i'll have a look next time i'm over there. Did you race there too?
