Title: Are tracks as fast as they were in the olden days?
Post by: LucyLastic on June 01, 2006, 05:08 PM
I haven't seen a bmx track, in the flesh, in recent years, only the photos on this site.  I used to love bmx racing because of the speed you could build up on some of the straights, with the odd set of whoops here and there.  The pics I've seen on here seem to be more whoops that speed, so can the riders these days, actually get some momentum up before they hit a jump?

I'm not saying this is a bad thing at all, it probably makes the races a lot more interesting to watch (and probably ride).   I was just wondering if anyone misses the speedy straights in races, if it is the case that they all consist of jump after jump.

I'm bored at work, can you tell?  ::)

The techniques used now mean the speed today is more than the speed of yesterday , rode well a new school track is super fast , you just have to jump everything and learn how to manual

super fast these days with special surface not just compact mud. bournemouth has concrete screened berms and cheddar has tarmac for example. ;). body armour is advisable as well

If you want speed go to Coppull (near wigan),its VERY fast (when dry) and very scary. If you can jump the first set of doubles you go like the clappers after  that.
I've recently started riding again and everything is MUCH faster, bigger and longer.

And manualling is a motherf###er-but when you get that right...thats really fast as well.

If you are going back on the track buy everything protective you can!!! Buy the lot.

But it is still great.

I remember one New years day meet,a lad who was quite well known on the racing circuit (although not so well that i remember his name now :-[) doing 360's over Kong at full pelt.He fell of the first time and then got back on and jumped it like a nutter.

We were all mad then :LolLolLolLol:

Are tracks as fast as they were in the olden days?

ive never seen one move so i cant coment on how fast they are or might be. but ill against that statement and say the mk track has been in the same place since 1884. thefore i conclude its quite slow.

Before that there was another one from 1881 to 1883, that went and is no longer there so it must have been quicker I quess.

ok so has any one seen it.

maybe you should stick up some posters around you neighbour hood

missing

then stick a picture of the track in

and put some contact details in.

it might turn up.

if any one here works for the police they might be able to help age it. becasue after 24 years it may have changed a little
