Just bought a ripper f&f. And promised it was an early one. The forks are landing gear forks with drilled dropouts . The frame number is pk64134 cheers
-
It said yes then... ;D
-
piccy's mate ;)
-
Can any body give me a year from the frame number?
-
SE usually put random date stamps on the Rippers, show us a pic and we'll tell you the year.

first time i've heard of that, so if true that would make this one an 83 :daumenhoch:
and mine an early 79 as it has no serial :)
2xxxx = mid 1979
3xxxx = 1980
4xxxx = 1981
5xxxx = 1982
6xxxx = 1983
7xxxx = 1984

done a bit more research on this that has thrown up Rippers with numbers starting with 0s so not sure that the above is acurate, also talking to people that have spoken to the OM they say that he says that Rippers started getting numbers in Nov 79 and that the numbers were random.
so it seems that we are back to where we started.
pre Nov 79=no serial
nov 79-84 random serials and can't be dated.
any more info on this would be appreciated
-
dont know really why it matters as all early loopies will come under the same valuation, and will command good re-sale prices... :)

yeah i know sam but it makes me laugh when some people say they have a certain year ripper when there is no proven way of dating them except the 79s :daumenhoch:

From what I can see it looks pretty good too, although I have to put the pics on my 56" screen to see them :D

-
Just for the record,my looptail Ripper was purchased new in late '82 and does correspond to the date list from the museum. :daumenhoch:

As for "OM", yup I've talked to him a few times about this and Brian Hayes and they both confirm the same thing with what we all thought. Random serial numbers.
The 1st serial numbers were late 79 :daumenhoch:

scott says the numbers were random, Sal, who was one of the welders that put the SE and Race inc frames together says they were random,
some numbers tie in with the theory put forward on the museum but others don't such as the 0 numbers.
so until i have proof as far as i'm concerned there is no way to date a loopy PK Ripper apart from the round tope tube frames (79) and the non serial frames (also 79)
serial numbers started in nov 79 according to scott and were random
if anyone comes up with anything to disprove this please let me or Ash (kungfunky) know.
