Title: Cleaning dirty white Ame Tris
Post by: huw_brynamman on November 14, 2011, 10:06 PM
Hi,

Got a set of bubble Ame Tris on my freestyler. Unfortunately they're dirty and need a good clean. Any tips/advice appreciated. Huw.

Yeh poke a spoke down the inside of the grip and squirt some WD40 in there.
Use WD40 to refit too - it evaporates after a few mins and grips are stuck fast!

Or boil a kettle, fill a pint glass and dunk the grips & bars in. 1min later pull them off and reverse it to get them back on.

Simples ;-)

thin screwdriver down the side and a squirt of oil down the straw gets them off.

Jif and a scrubbing brush to clean them up - bleach overnight if needed then Jif again.

I always put my grips on again with a bit or ye ol SPIT around the inside of the hole and pull em on quick... i've found that somethimes WD40 takes an age to dry ( or never ) if the grips seal really well  :daumenhoch:

WD40 is a very BAAAAD idea for getting grips to stick....

"The long-term active ingredient is a non-volatile, viscous oil which remains on the surface, providing lubrication and protection from moisture. This is diluted with a volatile hydrocarbon to give a low viscosity fluid which can be sprayed and thus penetrate crevices. The volatile hydrocarbon then evaporates, leaving the oil behind. A propellant (originally a low-molecular weight hydrocarbon, now carbon dioxide) provides gas pressure in the can to force the liquid through the spray nozzle, then itself diffuses away"

IMO you cant beat hairspray or clear rattlecan laquer

I have stuck my grips on with WD40 since the 80's (not the same pair!)

Mine stick with no movement whatsoever.

Maybe I have some sort of magic WD40, or I just got lucky, dozens of times!

x2 hairspray  :)

I propbably would have stuck with WD40 if I hadn't had a bad experience... and just read that above  ;D

I always saw WD40 as a water displacer / penetrator rather than a lube.

If you think it is lubey, spray some on your chain!
Or in your freewheel. Hahahaha

perhaps its ok on grips if your goal in life is to perform endo's in your back garden? ;) :D

its not a chain lube though is it. stupid analogy. :4_17_5: :uglystupid2:
