did these come in black originally?got some nos gold but black would suit better.

Red , Gold , Blue and silver ones, :)
, Hmmm not sure :-\, they may not have done black till SX came out ::)

Yes shimano did the 4 colours back then...And black was one of them.Even shimano tourney components had black components............. 8)

Yep, as said above: Blue / Red / Gold / Black & the DX Silver Series (look like CP in the pic rather than Silver ano??) ???
Sam restored some nice black ones recently. Not sure what paint he used though.

I'm pretty sure they went all freestyle funky in the late 80s with pink, orange, green etc. probably lashed over the original colour.

I was just looking back through very early BMX Action bike mags
and the few shops that stated their DX colours, only mentioned the 4 colours but no black
,,did they come out late 83 ,, probably ???
Like I said I don't think they did black till SX cameout
Paul (Monkian's) ad is when SX were in production
DX's are pretty cool in black :)

what sort of condition are they in gaz?had 2 pairs of xc-ii's but i sold them
a while ago,should have kept one set i think. :'(

Just a side note......
All the original finish survivor or NOS black DX I have come across have the raised shimano logo un-painted.

These ones were around somewhere between 82 and 84, Suntour changed the bodies to remove the bracing and then put it back (possible to give the cage more support).

Suntour changed the braced XC-I bodies 4 production reason only!
There was always a left & right body needed,because off the 2 & 3 teeth on the pedal-body!
When u have 2 teeth on de body(XC-II)you dont need a left/right pedal-body anymore.....
Higher output/target i d would guess!
