Title: BMX Video Games
Post by: Toblerone on November 22, 2011, 03:25 PM
Just re-read the article from Issue 3 of The Albion on BMX videogames.

As the mag mentions, it only needs someone to do a BMX game based on EA's Skate 3 engine and they would be on to a winner?

With BMX as popular as it is now, surely its only a matter of time?

Don't think they ever will though, people have been on at them for years to make it but nowt yet.  They are not making anymore skate games either  :-\

The best BMX game was Dave Mirra BMX 2 on the PS2.

I still play that now!

Ok the graphics are dated etc etc, but for gameplay it is fantastic.

Get on Woodward level, put it in free mode, and just flow around doing xup 1 footers.

If you haven't played it, it is worth buying a PS2 just for Dave Mirra 2.
I promise you.

Nahh it's still good now!
The gameplay is superb. Much better (imo) than the Hoffman games.  A little more forgiving.

In "BMX XXX" (basically Dave Mirra 3) there were flatland moves.
The whole game was ok, but not quite as good as DM2.

Worth a play though!

Would be good if they made another bmx game, tony hawks american wasteland is pretty good though. I doubt they'll make any more skating games either, probably scooters again next...

It was actually really good!

Only if you are into BMX though.
If you are some games buff, you are just gonna pick holes in the graphics etc

X-games - DEW Tour - BMX sales - bmx Clothes industry - from the the top companies to the cheap end

it's not like bmx has just come on the scene - go down a street and you will see a bmx form the UK to Africa

but yet they bring out another cheap shite engine shoot em up that has been done a thousand times before

it's about time they brought out a good game for BMX  >:D

I still have my Dreamcast.
That console would play copied games, without any need for chipping!
I have over 100 games for mine - some are pretty good.  The shoot em ups are great.

The controllers were good too - with the little lcd displays on them!
Sadly they, like all the rest, were Spened by the mighty PSX.

That is a good call.  :daumenhoch:
I know some versions do but has anyone tried DM2 on the PS3?
I might give it a try later...

I have DM2 for the xbox, it has some different levels which is good, but the best version is still on the PS2.

There was a Dave Mirra BMX game for Wii, but it was ruined by the Wii's stupid control system.
Don't know if you can play it with Wavebirds (Gamecube controllers)?

I think I will go and have a quick roll around on the PS2 version now.  It has been hooked to my TV permanently for the last 10 years, solely because of this game!
(although Gauntlet dark legacy is good too)

It should work but only on the 60gb PS3  Series 1 (the big fat one) that plays PS2 games.

That's the one I have but I think a firmware update a while ago stopped lots of them working!  ::)
I'll update later... :daumenhoch:

The original PS3 will cook all types of meat!

And it is fat reducing.

I remember sitting down for hours, recreating local parks in the park editor on MH - hours wasted when I should have been out riding them......

And yeah on the Dreamcast - lovely console - and as you said the amount of eye-bleeding schmups available was great, although suffered hugely from the PS1 and PS2 release. Still drag it out every now and again (mainly to have a few beers and play Get Bass with the rod controller  :D )

Just been playing DM2 and Mat Hoffman 2, MH2 made my little yellow light come on so I won't be trying that again any time soon!  ::)
(PS3 system reset and it's working again.)
