Tried two tacks so I could put it in the vice and take it off but this didn't work.

Full on attack with the grinder, then combination of hammer and chisel and vice and off it came.

I have done a couple that way and the satisfaction when it all comes off is wonderful

i always used a hammer and chisel until one got me beat, got a bit of 1/2" square bar and cut it to fit into the grooves on the freewheel. drilled a hole in the centre of it so i could bolt through the hole for the axle then clamped the square bar in the vice and just unscrew the wheel. took about 10 seconds to unscew compared to the half hour battering it with a hammer and chisel and ending up with bloody knuckles when you swing and miss. :tickedoff:

didn't think it was gonna come off at all so just went for it >:D
was really pleased when the drift moved and i had managed not to wreck the hub or the rim :)

Welded a metal bar vertically to one I had and smacked feck out of it, that did the job!
cannot beat a knockometer! :2funny:

Just crush the freewheel in a vice and turn the wheel anti clockwise, do about 3 or 4 a month at work

no need for that!!
all i do is remove the centre lockring, take off the teeth ring and catch all the bearings and pawls, so ur just left with the freewheel's bare body on the hub which then can be clamped in a vice and just twisted off
that way u can just rebuild the freewheel and you have caused no damage

Apologies, I assumed we were at the point where the freewheel is fooked and has no value, my method is used when replacing a shagged ungreased freewheel from a hub, quickly and efficiently. Or if you can't be arsed stripping the £4 freewheel :LolLolLolLol:
