now that winter is coming albeit a little late this year 8)
can any of you radsters offer some good advise on storing your bikes in the garage or shed. stopping damp and corrosion getting to all those chrome parts. i worry a little about my bikes getting rusty. but i thought it would be the perfect time to write this thread ready for the winter months. cheers stu :daumenhoch:

put a radiator in the shed! :daumenhoch:
-
strip them down and hide them in pieces all over the house from the missus!!!!!!!
-
My bikes are inside the house but if this helps, I always use silica gel containers from DIY stores to absorb the moisture in my garage and use the packet versions inside my old Triumph Herald this time of year. I also spray WD on to a cloth and wipe that over the shiny chrome bits. :daumenhoch:

Bikes in the shed or garage , what is this crazy talk ?
Surely all bmx treasure should be kept indoors , we have a two bedroom house and only one bed , my wife suggested that my bikes should not really be filling up / taking over the spare room and that it may be an idea to move them to the shed and put a bed back into the bedroom .
After I had pointed out to her that losing only one room to bmx was a victory in her favour as there is plenty of other rooms that could house even more bmx goodies , she soon saw my point of view !

A bucket/container with 3 inches plus of salt in the bottom, watch how the salt draws the moisture out of the air, after a fortnight or so the water will be above the salt ...
-
I have a wood burning stove in the garage, when i fix the chimney its gonna be toasty :smitten:
That will get rid of any winter dampness :daumenhoch:
-
Keep em in the house... :daumenhoch:
-
or the loft even if its cold its super dry up there so they will be good and safe :daumenhoch:
-
My bikes are in the cellar and Im also worried about damp (its my first BMX year so no history to go by). I think ill try the above salt trick to see if there is moisture down there. The walls are painted white and dont show any sign of damp, but it is very much a cellar..
Good question..

You are allaware they are just bikes aren't you?
As long as your shed / garage is well ventilated they will be fine. Better still' take the fooking things for a spin in the mud and shit like they were designed to do!
-
you can get those damp traps from the 99p store or poundland - I always make sure I have one in the corner of the spare room I keep my bikes in. don't have a shed but I'm fooked if I'd put them in there anyway, there's only 3 of them
if I had a heated shed I'm not sure if mrs griff would be happy, would be in there all the time ;D
-
My bikes have there own room away from the misses :LolLolLolLol:
-
mine are kept in a drafty old garage with no heating and have been fine for years :daumenhoch:
-
mines all snuggled up warm with a blanket over em by the radiator in the front room ;D.

I've just lost all respect for you Dave, mine are currently shivering in the draughty, well ventilated garage like they should be and are fine :2funny:

In't loft. Plenty of circulating air and dry. All year round. no problems. :daumenhoch:
If you have static air and moist conditions then you'll have problems.
