Title: 94 Haro Sport resto...
Post by: ED209 on December 02, 2011, 10:06 PM
...so I nearly brought a new school bike offof ebay then saw Joe oldskooldayz had a 94 Haro Sport... so I had to have it  :daumenhoch:

I was after a chrome one for a rider... always had a soft spot for chrome & pink so this was my chance

turns out the 94 is much better built than the 91 - beefier all round and more suited to big pegs - half an inch longer too.

So I've finally made time to get it stripped and hit it hard to strip the decals, remove the rust and PEEK it up like I've never PEEKed before...  >:D

got the decals on from Uncle Del and I'm very happy  :4_17_5: ... building her up now with a mix of the parts that came with the frame and the bits I had left from that Mirra 540 I brought  :daumenhoch:

... Saturday am... jut about done  8) need to get some Hoffman Lowdrags on and a chain  ::) I'm super happy with it... chrome & pink is LUSH  :smitten:

thanks gents... go the final bits soaking in an Oxidic bath overnight then I can get the rest of bits on in the morning  :daumenhoch:

using the Araya wheels off the 1999 Mirra... they are 20mm axles but I flattened the axles off with my angle grinder and they are good to go  :daumenhoch:

Never used PEEK before... it is AMAZING  :4_17_5:

will see the Oxidic results in the morning

Look forward to seeing this one finished!!  Btw (and sorry if this is a bit of a hijack), would you know if mid-school Fusion parts (like the chainwheel and seatpost clamp you've got on this) would fit older Haros, specifically an '87 Group 1 RS3??  Cheers!

looking good ED  :daumenhoch: does Keith like it ?

will post a pic of Keith on my new bike later Len :)  :LolLolLolLol:

been out to the Oxidic bath and poked my bits  ^"^... looking good! most of the rust seems to have gone - just gotta wait till light to wash 'em down

got the bike built except crank / chainwheel pedals... not really into the Fusion chainwheel being black with blue on so I need another silver Sugino... also need to go and get my other pair of Hoffman Lowdrag bars of Louis's Shredder... not really into the Kneesavers  ::)

I'm liking the Bulldog brake levers that came on the bike... not see those before  :)

pics later

the Chainwheel will but the not the seatpost clamp from this particular model... as its bigger than the old school size - but you can get the same one in the size you need no probs  :daumenhoch:

Most fusion parts will fit though  :)

Awesome work Ed, you know I love these Sports!!  :4_17_5:

Well thank you t'you Rob as Del wouldn't have had the decals if he hadn't ran them off for you and got them wrong as he did white behind, not silver like you wanted... silver wouldn't have worked against chrome ... so top boy you

I knew something looked different and the white works really well on the chrome!, looking forward to seeing it finished Ed.

Reminds me of the budget build I did for the old poggler at work.  :daumenhoch:

thats nearly exactly it Rob  :D - so you did silver on chrome eh??? I pondered and umm'd and ahhed for hours on if it should have chrome or white backgrounds... I'm real happy with the white but I'm thinking white peregrines would be nice on it now!

Good luck, I shall watch with interest, I remember Discostu saying he had to have the crown race (i think) machined down a bit, only a thou or so, Has Keith got a lathe? You may not want to do it with your grinder!!!

I may be able to sort it if you have a prob Mate.

Yes I have just done my 92 master. I used the cups from a new beartrap 2 headset. I then sorted through my bits box and managed to find some old 1"1/8th aheadset parts with bearings and crowns that fitted into the cups without any machining. If you don't have any 1"1/8 spare headsets buy a Savage 1"1/8th from Dave at the rad bmx shop for just under £9. The top bearing and seals and bearing tapered crown will fit without any problems. The bottom bearing race will fit into the cup if it's pressed in place but won't move around freely. I took the bottom cup and bearing down to my local engineering firm and they popped it in the lathe and took a thou off. The bearing spun nice and free. It cost a fiver.
All in all this is not a cheap conversion.
1" Beartrap 2 from eBay around £23-£28 from eBay
Savage 1"1/8th headset from rad bmx shop for £9
Engineering costs to machine the Lower cup £5
All in around £30. Then a different stem and forks.
But it won't come loose like the threaded ones! So well worth it for a rider! :daumenhoch:
