As it says really, I wanna know some decent bar geometry for mainly os bikes, I want to get some bars made, it's always been something I've wanted to do, start my own bmx business, I know what to do,even got a name sorted(not very imaginative though :LolLolLolLol: ) I just need to know some good geometry for them. I will be making ladder bars, you can only get a few certain kinds and they are all really dear, and the new school knight ones are really expensive and need to be shipped from America. I would be selling them for around £50, hopefully cheaper but I won't scrimp on the quality of them. I was thinking of having them brazed? Give me your thoughts please.
Thanks, Lucas. :daumenhoch:

you cant go wrong with early gt pro bars, pretty much perfect, copy those if any :daumenhoch:
-
Great idea im sure plenty of Radsters would be only to kean to trial your first batch ..... Apply for Dragons Den , as my old boss used to say "never miss an oppertunity " :daumenhoch:
-
deffo GT pro bars, i'd have a set for a rider... :daumenhoch:
what steel are you going to use?
-
Get a CNC mandrel tube bender and its a cinch making the bars... trouble is the machinery is super expensive. Brazing is good if you are using a low alloy steel that would have needed post weld heat treatment had it have be welded. TIG welding is king these days though and you could get away with a DC unit on steel alloys keeping the set up costs down and post weld heat treatment is readily available as there are quite a few specialist firms in this country who do it.
The only real economically feasible way to produce this kind of product is to have it made abroad in the far east, unless you had ready access to the machinery and the skills to manufacture yourself. If you want to do it though then go for it and make it work! :daumenhoch:
I am going to make a cruiser frame for myself in 2012, I have been drawing the jig for the last 18 months. These guys are a relatively new company who design and build all there own bike frames including the tooling - http://www.hammooncycles.com/Default.aspx

Well if someone can give me the dimensions and geometry then I'll see what we can do :) I will probably use tig welded 4130 chromoly as it is good and fairly cheap :daumenhoch: I will look for a maker for them, also, they will be raw or white as chrome might get a bit too dear. Once I've finished my bike my money will go towards the bars. I'm gonna make some plates on the side, and maybe t shirts, but that's going a bit too in to it :LolLolLolLol:

So, any suggestions? :)
-
early GT bars were far too rakey, can't help you with dimensions but robinson pro bars have always been the best feeling bars IMO (altho not anywhere as strong as GT bars)
boss bars are awesome riding bars and they have started making them again, there may be some tech info on the net about dimensions if ya dig for it

do what most people who are going to copy something do!...go and nuy whatever product itis you want to copy and take all the info you need from it!!then sell it on!! :daumenhoch:

That's ladder bars out of the question then, and kuwi lazer bar replica's are only about £20 so I don't wanna do them. I think it will be GT pro bars, is the rake like the backsweep of the bars? If it is I could sort that out

A genuine set of GT pro bars are not much more than that... I would be replicating something that is quite rare like VDC freestyle bars. Just a thought :daumenhoch:

People would not pay that money for the replica's and there is also the fear that it would de-value the originals ????

For me VDC freestyle bars had the best rake for flatland BITD, but remaking them would be a test for any manufacturor.....
-
I was thinking of having bars like GT pro ones, so they're tall and wide, but ladder style?
-
Make something unique but with an old school feel / style - there's too much re-pop stuff around as it is :daumenhoch:
