I know there has been a spate of lovely Gen 1/1.5/2 on here over the last month, but i finally got mine to exactly the spec i wanted.
This is exactly the bike I would have built back in 1983 if i could have picked whatever i wanted from the BMX mags that i read.
To say I am pleased with it is an understatement, not that bothered if its not to everyones taste but i love it.

Redline 400 Flight Cranks
Skyway Graphite Tuffs on Whitewall tyres

thats lush! but theres no way you would have specced $hit tyres like those back in the day, if youve got panaracers - stick them on and bin the halfords whitewalls! :)

sorry bud, but i would have, i used to love my whitewalls back in the day, it was the "fashion". Its only the fact of what we know now (IMO) that means i would put the Panaracers on.
-
hmmm... I dont beleive you! ;)
another thing, why do people put the chainrings on the wrong side on spiders? never figured that one out.
-
hmmm... I dont beleive you! ;)
thats your perogative sir ;D
but whitewalls all the way for me. loved em then and love them now.

Are you insinuating that i have my chainring wrong? tut tut
Depends on the spider, some have the chainring in front and some behind :P

Jim, that is stunning mate :smitten: Kenda whitewalls were THE MUST HAVE accessory back in '82 - '84 when we were riding freestyle :4_17_5: Top notch tyre and looked the nuts when the walls were white as...
Sugino chainrings have the recess on the rear of the bolt hole to allow for the back of the chainring bolt to slot into it when in use so you didnt damage the 'slot' that helps to hold it while doing up the bolt :daumenhoch:
Depending on your Crank, Spider and rear hub setup (freewheel, coaster, cassette) was where you needed to place your chainring to keep in line the chain :coolsmiley: :daumenhoch:

Im quite well aware of all that gumpf, it just looks $hit IMO.
The spider is recessed specifically so that a chainring sits on correctly at the front. Chainring bolts have slots on the rear specifically so you can do them up regardless of if you have a recess on the chainring :)

:LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
I do love a discussion on personal opinions.
I like my sandwiches cut into 4 triangles rather then squares. :daumenhoch:
But... if you look on the back of the 400 spider it has machined edges for the chainring to sit on, the front one is shaped for the style rather than the function. You can clearly see it in your wrong pic :daumenhoch:
-
Still looks $hit that way though ;)
-
Nowt wrong with your opinion fella. Would be a boring world if we all thought the same.
:daumenhoch:
Personally i prefer them on the back, think Profile Box cranks, Redline 400s and some suginos as the spiders are works of art and should be shown off. Others arent so nice so should be hidden ;)
-
Simply stunning mate What a superb build and I LOVE the tyres. :smitten:

i was gonna say that the chainring wont fit on 400's on the front because of the shape :crazy2:.
lovely bike jim 8)
-
top build mate, its the bollocks nice1 :daumenhoch:
-
thats lush! but theres no way you would have specced $hit tyres like those back in the day, if youve got panaracers - stick them on and bin the halfords whitewalls! :)
I beg to differ :

you just did that in Photoshop Bill... those whitewalls are much too white :)
That Haro looks amazing Jim 8)
-
I rode with whitewalls as a kid too, i still have one in the garage which is one of the few parts that stayed with me all the way from the early 80's.
-
I think the bike looks great with whitewalls, it's your bike so it doesn't really matter if other people don't like it :daumenhoch:
-
Nice bike Jim, did anyone other than Haro use rat traps by 82 :-\
-
I fcuking hate whitewalls. Always have.
But I was in a minority of one back in '82. Everyone around me ran them. I used to use Halfords shopper tyres, all black. My local shop manager used to keep a stock of them aside for me as they wore out at an astonishing rate. Ok grip though.
-
whitewalls and black tuffs were THE combo BITD :daumenhoch: not sure they would take my small 16.5 stone frame now though ;D
-

we all used white walls bitd as that was all there was

Wow lazerlites came stock with 400's

-
Jim, wtf you plonka, wrong tyres, you complete :Aresehole:
I bet you used new inner tubes as well, and Ill put money on it that the grease is nu skool as well.
Other than that, the bike rocks, well done :4_17_5:
-
Jim your so polite , your bike your rules simple IMO i FOOKIN LOVE IT :smitten:
:coolsmiley: cheers
arguing about kids bikes aint my thing.
Build em, ride em, enjoy em :D :D
Life too short for that, much more important things to argue about if the needs must. :daumenhoch:
Like to keep negativity out of my life and enjoy the positive things.
Besides we all have our own opinions and they are never right or wrong just opinions and as Marty pointed out we all have them.
-
Spot on...........the end :daumenhoch:
-
Your bike ....... build it how you want , which you have ...... and it looks the bollox's imo 8)
-
Cool bike, whitewalls and all :daumenhoch:
-
Think it just looks the bollocks..! :daumenhoch:

I have CT's, chain ring on the inside. Fact.
Sugino chain rings are made that way. Recess on the rear.
Cracking build by the way :daumenhoch: :smiley6600:
