AFAIK the mkl's [USA made] didnt have the gusset with the star stamp [Taiwan made]

Eyup Mr Egg :) The F&F are Tiawanese made - DK moved manufacture to there in late 1999/2000. You can tell straight off with a pre 2000 DK by the serials - they start DK and then have the frame model, so a US made General would be DKGL (then the frame number), SOB's are DKSOB etc and are stamped along the length of the BB. Tiawanese made serials run around the edges of the BB.
There are Generals with the gusset that are still US made :)
The lovely sprocket's a US made Graveyard sprocket - from around 1998-2002. Score on the extra cranks as well :daumenhoch:

Here's a rough guide to the General Lee and year manufacture that I posted on the Museum a while ago:
last year for the OG 1997 shaped lettering (97-98 = blue and white decals, 99 = black and white).
There's a later '99 revision GL that had very similar decals to the OG one's, and came in blue and white but the lettering is 'thinner' and more spaced. These came with 14mm rear dropouts.
2004 marked the move of the AD lugs from the chainstay's to the seatstay's, and again a change in graphics (I seem to remember something about copyright issues with the Dukes of Hazzard). This also marked the move from US manufacture to abroad.
1997-1998 General (No large gusset connecting top to down tubes, 3/8 rear drops, US 4130, Old style decals in blue and white, came in orange or black frame and lugs on the chainstays):

Early-Mid 1999 General (Large top to down gusset, 3/8 rear drops, US 4130, Old style decals in black and white, various colours, lugs on the chainstays):
Late 1999 General (Large top to down gusset, 14mm rear drops, US 4130, 'thinner' and more space out style decals in blue and white, lugs on the chainstays):

Post 2000 General (Large top to down gusset, 14mm rear drops, Taiwan 4130, completely altered decal set, lugs on the seatstays):

So is mine not a 2002 as I was led to believe? As my lugs are on the chainstays not on the seat stays as per the post 2000 models and my decals are different

I should have said that's only a rough guide - need to ammend the post 2000 description - they moved the lugs to the seatstays in around 2004ish, so the post 2000's can have chainstay lugs :) And there's a load of different decals post 2000.
Whats your serial No Jaymz?

not found one, is it on the BB??
-
Should be, although I believe some of the post 2000's had em on the inside of the rear drops :)
-
will have a look tomrrow, all i spotted so far was the C stamped on the outside of both rear dropouts
