If these are real, how rare would these be? I want one!
P.s, 1000th post, woo!
-
:) Yep,Haro did indeed jump on the bandwagon :daumenhoch:
-
They made a few boards in the Mid 80's, my mate had a complete I think, not like that one though, seem to remember it more white and blue.
I bet they are like hens teeth, it was all about Powell/G&S/Santa Cruz when I started skating, Haro were `so old fashioned'!!
-
Hutch also made one, and CW, would like to see a hutch one. And yeah I doubt they sold well to be honest.
-
shite, don't remember those!SANTA CRUZ,POWELL and VISION ruled! :daumenhoch:
-
shite, don't remember those!SANTA CRUZ,POWELL and VISION ruled! :daumenhoch:
Any 80's skateboard is cool, just one would be good enough, unlike with bikes, you need more than one bike! ;)
-
the cw one was titled , time released insanity' or something like that
Always wanted one myself

Lucas, there are plenty of repops of the 80's santa cruz, vision and powell.you have to redrill them for the old trucks but it doesnt show when built. The 2 boards I had the VISION GATOR 2 and the SANTA CRUZ roskopp street are available as repops,I might treat myself when i,ve finished building bikes!!I'll see if i can dig out a pic or 2 :daumenhoch:

Yes, Time Released Insanity! I remember them.
They made a few boards in the Mid 80's, my mate had a complete I think, not like that one though, seem to remember it more white and blue.
Their first 'board was called the Circuit Board. Although I seem to remember that at the time there was another skateboard called a circuit board.

Skated since '86 and worked in a skate shop - the room of bmx stuff was just sitting there as skating got bigger and bmx was pushed to the side in order of the new skate board craze was blowing up
I just picked up Stoked on DVD in a charity shop the other day for £1
I must of had about 60 boards + over the years
there was a Haro circuit board on the wall for a long time, next to a Hosoi (biscut cut shape) Alva - all of the old flat board with no noses and wheel wells - they the fish tails came in Natas - Gator - McGill and so on
saw it all change in time at the shop - from flat boards - fish tails - long nose - round nose - double tail (i had one of the first vision double tails around when every one thought they were Kooky and never gonna last ;D)
the amount of boards that came and went in my hands at that shop - now i look back and wish i could have got one of each - even the repops are fetching big cash and collector highs
-

like to see me get in them trousers now :)

My mate had that board. The vison "Double Vison", it was a cool board, but totally different from what else was around at the time. I think I had a Santa Cruz Jeff Kendal at the same time.
Stunt Master is bang on about the price of old skateboards. I had a look on ebay to see what my old H Street Matt Hensley was worth and one sold for $450 and it was fooked
I will dig it out from the old mans garage when I go down and see the old folks at xmas. My Death Box Pete Dossett should be in there somewhere as well.
-
Haro made the circuit board and another fish tailed deck called the Haro Dots. Both were shit and youd have got your face punched in if you turned up at Rom with one :)
skateboard collecting is for weirdo's

Yup
-
These were driven by Jim Ford who came from Kryptonics and was a big innovator in th skate board world. Jim formulated the first dual compound wheels that were adopted by almost every brand at the time. He joined Haro as general Manager in the early 1980's.

yeah! :knuppel2:

-
I was never really a skater other than twatting about when the BMX was broken, but I did have a couple of T-Shirts....
From memory I had a Powell McGill and a G&S Neil Blender one....
I'd love a vintage Powell deck to hang on the wall, but I've just seen how much they can go for! :coolsmiley: :idiot2:

Mate that is an awesome collection you have there :daumenhoch:
Seeing some of those decks has bought back some memories for me.

found this at a carboot 1970 Nona Costa Messa
i have since cleaned it up and found that it has been only used once from the marks on tail - it's very clean - the wheels are lush and the top of the board is well cool (will get a clean pic some time )

That's an incredible collection :coolsmiley: how long has it taken to amass that little lot? ???
I could do without getting into skateboards too, but how much would it cost to get a gator 3 street deck?
-
This morning all I have been doing is searching the net for old school decks. Some of the prices are unreal
I might tap up a few mates on facebook I used to skate with and see what they have laying around in thiers garages

thanks!
Its taken about 8 years so far :)
The Gator 3 ramp is rare, would set you back maybe $6/700 if you could find one, the 3 mini isnt as rare and you can find them NOS for the $250 mark, the 3 street is the cheapest at around $150 NOS, plus they have re-issued it so you can buy them new for $69.95 :)

I keep going back to look through! The artwork is stunning. Really nice way to catalogue them too :)
Thanks for that, I'll keep an eye out for one of the re-issues. It's the deck I remember most :)

I might just get a nos variflex or something, even though they're probably pretty crap, and just upgrade it over time.
Although I did see a vision gator 2 re-issue for £50 or best offer, was actually thinking about it. Because it's a nice board, and quite cheap. And really I suppose he did what he did a while after the board was out, and I wouldn't be riding it because I like him either.
-
:) Are Variflex still regarded as crap? They used to sell the Splash and Hitail in Toys R Us (along with awful Nash boards) :daumenhoch:
-
Back in the day 70's they had a name - 80's they started getting taken over by better brands - they were regarded as lesser by the time skate boarding hit big again in the mid- late 80's - every year around '86 -'90 new ideas and designs came put and older 70's names that couldn't keep up got left behind
but like as we do with lesser bmx models and company's we still like them for what they are - a piece of great history
collect every thing i say ;)
-
I had a variflex air attack before i moved on to use santa cruz etc. Same as bmx really it was what i could afford at the time and enjoyed it. I think i still have a variflex r.i.p in the loft. :daumenhoch:

I had that valterra when I was a kid.

The first time I ever rode a board,1977,was on a yellow Gecko. Brings back great memories of family holidays on the Gower Coast. :daumenhoch:
-
They are all for sale ;)

I'm sure I can find that out if I have a look through my old RAD mags!
Talking about expensive boards; I wish I still had my 80's SMA Natas!
Oh, and I also had a Vision Gator. I found it in a skip when I was on my paper-round. A bit of a clean, some fresh griptape and it was good as new! :daumenhoch:
Giles ;D
-
I still think when i look back that my Natas was my best board i ever had :smitten: OJ teamriders and indy's >:D
-
My Natas was my favourite too. It was the best Christmas present I've ever had. Mine was riding on Indys and Bullets! :smitten: ;D :daumenhoch:
-
for me the mcgill was the best for graphics ,lance mountain was the best to ride and still looking for one to replace mine i lost and the worse was the kevin stabbs as had to plead to surrey skates to give me another one after snapping it within 2 weeks .
i used to ride tracker trucks as wanted to be different as everyone had indy`s
-
The S.M.A NATAS decks were brilliant, built for popping ollies!does anyone remember his section in 'streets of fire'?! where he ollies the fire hydrant?? :crazy2:
-
;D used to work in Surrey's John was not a owner to give any thing free ::) ;D and if it was, iot had to be some thing he had loads of and wanted to get us lot to promote so the other skaters would buy it ;D
wheels of fire was cool as well
had a mike Mcgill with the carbon sheet in it to make it stronger ::)
yup natas board had a nice pop >:D good olllier
I remember Jonh had a load of H-street decks in stock the fish tail big nose cross - then all the double nose smaller boards came out and he didn't know whaty to do with them - so he got a load of cheap smaller trucks and cut a new school, shape out of all of those H-street decks (all up in smoke ;D) now they would be worth shed loads and more then he sold the cheap cut up boards for :idiot2:
-
yep i had the bonite mcgill board in pink and lovely board but destroyed itself when got wet . worth a bloody fortune now if nos
oh and surrey skates did change my board for free . i used to go through boards once a month due to wrecking them as full on street skater . was better on a board than bmx bitd, should have stuck with it instead on keeping swapping between board and bmx

I've got Streets of Fire on DVD. Absolutely loved it when it came out! Great sound track too with an awsome pre-Rollins Black Flag to get you hyped up! :daumenhoch:
My mate got a new MgGill for his birthday and we all went for a skate and he mislanded a kick-flip and the board shot into the road and a Jag ran it over, snapped it in two and just carried on! We took it back to Mayfair Skates and tried to claim he ollied down some steps and it snapped when he landed but that was obviously crap as it had big sump shaped guages out of the top of it. :2funny: He ended up with a Lance Mountain funnily enough!
-
my brand new Nicky Guerrero got run over after it went int the road - car hit it and pinged up in the air about 15 foot flipping - the driver just carried on - think he may have thought he hit some one  deck was alright in the end ;D driver must of near sh!t himself ;D

had so many they some times slip the mind ;D
stil liked my Lopez ~ was that smiditt or circle A ?
and my big ROCCO - poo bear with the shades 8)
I remember have a Mike McGill with the carbon - it was fourth hand when i got it - used it for some time and sold it - 4 years later skating past some kid in the street and seeing it again - had the same grip tape i did and it was still going  if not a little smaller ;D

I had the t-shirt!
Had a go on my Schmitt Miller the other day, lovely board, can't seem to find a picture of it anywhere on the net, only what I think was the previous version. Had a front kicktail sort of arrangement, not the full on popsicle shape, came just before it I seem to remember.

look for him 8)

:) Nice sticker collection:) Spotted a Cockroach Wheels decal-Australian IIRC? Did RAD mag have a comp for what you could spell using SINAC stickers? One thing I`d love to get my hands on would be some Gutterslut or SM5D zines.I used to go to Surrrey a lot and also Slam City when they were at Rough Trade-half of my vinyl came from there :daumenhoch:
-
That Benji was sweet Dan!
-
Might have some mags up for sale or swap
It's strange, as i come from Guildford, we had the Guildford Loc's seen - from the young years down the youth club were we started to learn to skate and teach the hard lads (who know give respect for helping them all those years ago ) to the ramps that turned up / got riped up / made up again time and time again - so many years of skating with different peeps over the years - when i see a deck/ graphics i know who skated it and what the scene was at the time ???

My framed Powell collage from years ago.

This thread got me looking on ebay for old school skateboard stuff.
I saw this t-shirt and had to buy it in both colours. I always wanted one back in the day.

I wish I still had all my RAD mags. I had every issue from Oct 87 until about June 92 when I stopped skating.
-
nice boards dan and those gullwing trucks are worth a few quid ;)
only reason i ask about the lance in north cheam as remember buying one bitd from some one in n cheam who hardly skated it ,i don`t know what i did with it when gave up.
i used to skate new malden surrey all the time as local spot and skate southbank ,kennington and we were always building ramps somewhere ,champions in new malden was always having wood taken ::)
-
I'm gutted I threw out most of my RAD magazines now. :(
Still got the one where they printed my picture and letter though! ;D
Can't remember what one it is off the top of my head but it had Rune Glifberg nose picking the bin at Rom on the cover. :daumenhoch:

that tee is sick, ive just ordered one too!used to live for the day when R.A.D came out!! :daumenhoch:
-
I found this blog a while back. It is written by someone that used to work on R.A.D
There are complete scans of a few of the issues from back in the day. I used to read it from cover to cover and my bedroom was covered in posters from the mag so it was a real trip down memory lane.

Think Insane was Ged Wells creation? Remember Grova from Harrow having a short lived clothing line called Popanollie.
-
I only ever had one board, and was worse on that than I was on a BMX!!! Here she is
