Title: Oven Pride - will it damage Chrome?
Post by: punkdSICO on December 14, 2011, 04:40 PM
Hi all

I have read up on the Oven Pride method of stripping paint, and I now have some, ready to go!!  Initially, I plan on stripping the below headset but my question is: will Oven Pride damage chrome?  Obviously, the headset has a chrome tube so do I need to somehow protect this?  If so, how do you protect it??

Thanks for any replies..

Ta,

Paul

Ah - okay..  I will still give it a go with the above but, the other thing I was going to try are some pedals that have about 1mm of fresh powder coat on them!!  Any thoughts on how I might shift powder coated paint?

Ta,

Paul

Powder coat - paint stripper. Slap it on, leave it for a while, slap a bit more on and leave again. Then remove :)

Paul, knock the headset out first mate so you get all the paint off. Then go get it blasted off instead and do the job properly!

Gloves with both nitromors (for paint) or oven pride (for annodising) though as you think that Insanity chilly sauce shit burns? Just get a bit of either of those bad boys under your finger-nail for a new definition of pain!

Update 1:  I tried Oven pride on the above stem; left it soaking for 24 hours and did pretty much bugger all.

Next I will try some of the above (eg graffiti remover).

Paul
