Mongoose, and United do some bikes that may fit the bill, have a look for a higher priced (and spec) 2011 bike thats now being sold off due to 2012's new bikes!

Yep. Secondhand custom if you can be bothered.

If you can't be arsed with all the homework, Stodgy has a sale on all through January. Give him a ring, see what's about.

What Munnster said!  :daumenhoch:

I got a stunner for that budget, and will never ride OS BMX beyond a RAD meet up again.

got my mirraco for the princely sum of £110 (2009 black pearl 2)
not bad for a full cr-mo bike with only a few scratches on it and it means I've been able to swap a couple of bits without making it too expensive

Mate,

Get down to your LBS and try a few out for geometry (TT Length, Standover, BB Height, Headtube angle etc.) then make a note of what suits you and get on eBay or pop up a wanted here!  :daumenhoch:

Do your research and take your time and you WILL turn up a bargain, then you will never ride NS in any anger again!

found the shop and went in he had 3 bmx,s  ::) . 2  haros and a skyway big daddy somthing or other  ??? .needless to say i was non to impressed .
i asked if i could try out one of the haros for size (just to see )  the young lad working there looked at me and said you do know these are kids bikes dont you . and dont you think your to old to be trying them out  :tickedoff: :tickedoff: so not a good day at all

it's sunday night/morning now - so it should be turning up on monday  >:D  just there's a load of shite snow outside  ::) :'(

so when it gets here it will be set up and then sit in the lounge waiting - just don't tell the wife  :daumenhoch: ;D

often happens - i had a load of bikes slip through my hands and loads of "will get pictures up"  what they don't say is that they have put it on certain different sites and act as you are the only buyer ~ turns out they have been playing every one and sell it to some one who doesn't answer a thread and just goes straight to pm's with more money  :2gunsfiring_v1:

keep looking and if you are not sure, stick it up on here and peeps will let you know if it's good or bad  :daumenhoch:

cheers B  ;)

and then buy it themselves via PM  ;D

only joking, peeps on here are usually very helpful with stuff like this
except for that oldtired character, watch him he's been sticking pins in the wrist of a griff-shaped effigy he carries around in the hope that I'll flog it to him in an injured/weakened state

What's your upper limit?

Decide what you're honestly prepared to pay, and then we can set about recommending a decent ride, rather than chasing supposed bargains that are bound to be compromised in one way or another.

Also, get in touch with Matt Gillespie who owns T13 skatepark in Belfast. He had loads of stuff for sale recently and knows every rider in Ireland as you might expect. I'm sure he'd be able to sort you out, if only to point you towards a real bmx shop instead of the clowns you've been dealing with so far.

At least he's on the same piece of land as you  ;)

I have never ridden a NS bike or indeed, participated in any other form of homosexual activity.  But in both cases, I have heard that to begin with it feels very uncomfortable and awkward until you get used to it..

 ;)

So, is it true?  Do NS bikes feel strange for a while?  Yesterday, I discovered the most MENTAL dirt jumps about 500m from my house!!  I defo want to start going there but not sure how wise that is on OS..

Yep.

They feel COMPLETELY different to old school bikes. Modern bikes felt so long to me at first, but flew much more naturally through the air. Many fewer endos or loop outs when you're jumping. Riding quarters, they felt slower in the air, more stable.

People on this site are largely deluded, it bugs the hell out of me sometimes. They expect to hop on a new school bike, conveniently forgetting their often 20 years older and 3-4 stone heavier and then go on to moan how new school bikes are crap because they can't do the stuff they can, or could, on their old school bike.

Modern and old school bike are like apples and oranges.

And thank fcuk.

If you want to ride, spend a decent amount of money on the right tool for the job, go out and apply yourself a little bit. Expect to get hurt. Expect to have time off work. Expect to love it.

This is not an easy sport, never has been, never will be.

If you have trails on your doorstep, happy days.  However, be sure the first time you turn up there, you turn up with a shovel and not a bike.

No dig, No ride. It's a global rule.

 :LolLolLolLol:

Ratts, my last post was aimed toward punkdSICO really, but the sentiment's the same. If you love riding though, you'll soon get to grips with the bikes, don't worry too much. £300 is a great amount of money to spend, you'll get a cracking s/h bike for that or a very decent new complete on offer somewhere.

Matt Gillespie is a cool bloke. Worst ways he'll hook you up with some riders down there with you, he knows everybody!

The way i see it is, that when were young we learnt to ride our burners and gooses till we felt that we were one with them - and mostly people upgraded and started to learn there new machine and start to push the limit again till they learned more

the first time you get on a NS it feels like riding a plank - every thing feels solid and a bit hard, the cranks feel part of the frame and bars seem a long reach wide and far from you - with OS you feel close to the bike and parts - with NS you soon learn that you have room and the solid feeling turns to just riding just one part put together

like any thing - the more you use it - the more you start to feel how it will react to every thing - the more you have control the more you will get from it

each time you switch from NS to OS and back again, it will feel strange - but you get used to it

As it happens, that bike looks fine. If it has proper real actual sealed bearings in those wheels and not some pony dust seal bollocks, then it's a bargain   :daumenhoch:

Find out some dimensions first though bud, before you put your hand in your pocket, just in case it has some kooky toptube or summat.

Go for it.

It might be a little bit long at 21"tt, but don't worry about that for your first ride. There's always a shorter stem out there and you can pull the bars back a smidge.

Here ya go dude:

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=139990.0

A bargain for sure.

Nice low BB and high bars make it ideal for old schoolers as it's more what you'll remember a bike to feel like...i.e. it doesn't push your bum so high in the air you feel like you are in front of the bars! These are much more stable and nice to ride.

Sunday are made by Odyssey, so quality for sure...we sell quite a few and always very reliable...in fact not one back from the 2012 range for anything!

I'd watch the quality on things like that Stolen and some of the other bikes mentioned in the thread...everything that glitters isn't necessarily gold. Believe me, we sell hundreds of bikes a year and you learn a lot by what comes back and what doesn't.

it does feel different but not as bad as i was expecting you tend to lean over the handle bars more but after a while you get used to it (great for doing endos  ;D )
mind you i havent ridden an old school bike for years so maybe thats the reason it didnt feel to bad .
its just great fun being back on a bike . i would highly recomend it to anyone whos been thinking about it  :daumenhoch:

What Munnster said!  :daumenhoch:

I got a stunner for that budget, and will never ride OS BMX beyond a RAD meet up again.

Pull the bars back so they're in line with the forks it'll feel a lot better given time to get used to it...  :daumenhoch:

The sample pic you posted earlier in the thread is correct...  :police:

And move the brake levers down while you're at it...  :daumenhoch:

And... stickers ruled BITD, and they rule now.

Embrace the stickeryness.

I love stickers.

a leap of faith, I agree, but you will notice everything is sharper, lighter, and ultimately more comfortable, even if a little contrary to what you are used to... Makes more sense from an engineering / physics / design perspective, tho', if you think about it!  :daumenhoch:

I'm in the market for a new school too , glad i read this thread , cause i'm about the same height and reckon i'm gonna go for a 20.5"  or 20.75" toptube .i'm watching a couple of Haro 500's on ebay , both for abour £260-£270, spec looks pretty good on them , and its a Haro , which always helps i.m.h.o  ;D

I do love the look of the 2012 Chrome 000 brakeless  but i'm not 100% sold on the brakeless thing while i'm getting back up to speed , had my zippo brakeless and it feels equally good and scary , at 40 i don't need scary .... :buck2:

Anybody have experience of the 2011 and 2012 Haro models?

I would imagine there are better bikes per pound spent than Haro ones.

Haro, mongoose, GT and Diamond Back are now all owned by big companies, (pretty much)

Spend wisely, there is no rush, takes 40 years to get to this stage, enjoy the buzz and the hunt!!

Hi Dave
go for it man  :daumenhoch:
the guys on here give good advice i find the frame size just right for my hight
and with the bars back in line with the forks the whole bike feels just right
i had not been on a bmx for years so was worried that i would not get the feel of a new school but i am getting there
have been trying to get out on the bike most days since i got it which also helps , i cant say wether Haro bikes are good or bad
i only bought the stolen because it was a bargin price and was fairly close to home (by close i meen it was 40 miles away  :2funny: )
i like how the bike rides its smoothe and very free running .
so my advice is listen to what people say and  go out and get  a new school you wont regret it .  :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
