How many of you does this happen to...??
You get a text message or FB message off a pal who says 'I love your bikes, can you hook me up with one?' or 'are you selling any of your bikes, I really want one?' ???
This is happenening to me once a week now. ::)
But, as soon as you start telling them how much they will need to shell out, you get, 'ooh, I don't want one that bad!!' :idiot2:
It's really p155ing me off tbh, you either love BMX or you don't, do these tools just think that we find these bikes as we're walking down the street or what. >:(

I'll be honest mate, I wouldn't have the bikes I've got now If I had to pay current prices for em.

I know what you're saying Mat, but you've probably had those bikes a long time and got them before the scene/hobby went mental withn it's prices - it indicates that you've got the love for it. :coolsmiley:
My gripe is with the people that like the shiny chrome and colourful plastic wheels, and think, I want to do that.
I build bikes because I loved them then and I love them now, I love the rides and meeting up with like minded people. ;)
These people i'm talking about would buy all the parts, pester me to help them build them, leave them in the corner of the garage then sell them on eBay a month later. :crazy2:
-
These days prices are still too high for me
Unless is a part I really (and I mean really!!!!) want then I'll say "thanks but no thanks :daumenhoch:
Its either £200 ish on kids bikes or £200 in the bank for a rainy day...and lets face it this years going to be even tougher out there :'(
I think "Joe Public" is not aware how much Old School BMX stuff goes for :idiot2:

I agree, I don't think they're worth it. I really like em, but it's like my number 3 hobby. Still got tons of stuff to sell, need to get it all gone and just ride the two I keep. Even the crap nobody wanted years ago commands ridiculous prices. Fashion is a strange phenomena. It's not that newcomers love Bmx more, it's just that you never knew it any different. It's not massive amounts of money, just too much for bits of old bikes. I had 43 at one point, and I now have 6 or 7 left. I've enjoyed the money tbh. Daft bit is, I've probably got about £3-4000 worth of stuff left which would have been £1000 tops 4 years ago and way less than that 7 years ago.
First bike I bought was a burner for €25 in june 2000 and that's not gained much :LolLolLolLol:
I think in reality, your mates aren't daft in thinking a nearly 30 year old bike with a lick of paint and new stickers isn't worth £1500. It's just a second hand old bike to them. Even though there's a lot more in the hobby, it's still very niche and things aren't common knowledge from this small old school world.

I've stopped telling people I collect old school Bmx, because they just presume you have a loft full of old scrap rusty bikes...
-
