Post by: HUTCHMAN on February 04, 2012, 05:32 PM
Coming back from Giuldford today by train, just outside Farnborough North station there is a what looked like a twin toptube freestyle frame lying by the line...never know, could be a Gen 1.Anyone interested, think it was by Rectory Road.

was nt it the people from park barn that ruined it ? lol

no, I grow up at the local youth club '86 onwards and every one from Guildford went there - all the park barn and bell fields lads went there and then you had the posh kids as well

they had a big hall up stairs and when i look back, we we're very luck - huge place for 5-a-side footy - they made a flat bank that folded down off the wall about 6' high and 5' across - bloody great - then they made a quarter pipe on the other side, so you could keep tricks going
Skaters and bmx could use it - i remember Gavin getting his new white/orange streetbeat and just doing freestyle there all the time

so being there the hard lads would want ago on the boards - after a while about half of them became skaters - and as you grow up you become crew

years later when you go to pubs with you mates, they turn round and see some nutter coming over and want to leave - the nutter comes over and suddenly says hello - it's mates from back in the day showing respect for help them to have a go at skating
there seems to be a unwritten rule to show respect and say hi or give a nod if you were at the youth club or early days of the pub scene - we call it being  "Guildford Loc"

it was only when some of the old pubs closed and the (shite)Night club came along and new bars opened up on the Bridge and it all became open to other towns for other people to come and flex there muscles - get drunk - not pull - and then start fights with the Loc's
you soon get tired off the same crap and all the new bucks trying to grab a piece of the pie
with cheap drinks and crowed bar fronts it got lame quick
with cheap drinks and pissed peeps the cops come out - and they used to stop us all the time and flex there laws of shite

so Guildford went through a time of when you walked into a pub and new who were the hard nutters and to keep away from them - now every one seems to think they are hard and no one knows any one any more - the respect has gone

cool.. sounds like a lot of places until the mid 90's.. me and my friend discuss this.
there is nothing new and impacting that pulls different types of people together! ie - the rave scene, bmx ing , skating, stamp collecting, scalectrix or whatever and people are not as susceptible to learn and hang together. people are more empty, afraid and lack confidence and social skill but if you tried to explain this to them they would think you were on drugs. it seems even the old skool crowd who are really immature have changed with the times and are just like the youngsters. i think some of them dont actually realise they are twice the age of the slappers they date in their little bubbles!!
i speak to people up north and scots and this stupid beheviour is a national thing!
its very sad really ! oh well. i ll be me and do what i do and be old skool and cheeky and knowing with everyone!
but i do see a change. a re emergence of kids of different classes that hang together on scoots and bmxs at the local shops and dont act threatening towards people they think they can get away with doing it to. so maybe there is hope but i dont think there is hope for dress sense!! lol

I was actually tempted, but there was no way dave was coming out today  ;D

didn't really fancy getting done by the transport police for spending too much time on a train line looking for a white frame in the snow

dave - why don't you try tagging where you think it was on google maps and we can have a radbmx 'treasure hunt' ?

it's either south of this bridge on the left as you look at the pic,or...

Guildford isn't a rip off  ::)

To park my car in Guildford for an hour is something like £1.10, I used to live just outside Kingston & it was £3.50 an hour to park in Kingston.

I work in Farnbrough  8)

chances are it might be picked up by the rail side cleaners ?

where about was it - near the rails or on the side or away a bit more ?

there is about 10 ft between the line and the backs of the gardens,it was more or less against the fence.

lol.i dont think city edge parking is a fair comparison.  i dont know of parking that much but that is more expensive than bracknell. i mean the shops, bars, restaurants now compared to what they were years ago. above and beyond normal inflation. i spent time in guilford as a teen and in the last few years. its become more hurah henry than before!!
Title: Re: Anyone near Farnborough?
Post by: bobbbbsy on February 05, 2012, 05:45 PM
i went. i did the wrong side  :angrysoapbox: but the right place, there was thick snow which makes it dodgy as there are piles of logs and tree waste piled up in banks at the edge of the track. i did nt have to wave to any train drivers. if you do the house side you will be crunching through ditches full of tree cuttings right at the rear of peoples back gardens separated my a 4ft thin wire fence!!  i got an old grip !! lol.. but its a kiddy one not a bmx! do i get nutter status or pikey status ??   :uglystupid2:  :crazy2:

Everything everywhere is more expensive that is was even a few years ago, it's because fuel goes up, everything else goes up  :)

But Guildford is still no more expensive that anywhere else  8) it's just more expensive that a few years ago.

if by any stroke of luck it's by the second pic,go to Rectory Road on Google street view, just by where it goes under the railway bridge, theres a (probably locked) gate right by the road side.If it is by this one,it'll be over the gate, and turn right.

theres a frame id thread to by me !!

i know. damn them bars are ugly. was gonna give them to a mate whos into crappy old raleighs but the lever had been left touching the bars and had rusted a hole in them so binned the lot.

its fooked.. corroded off centre.. the substrate of the metal inside the tube is broken down and holed on the outside as is the seat tube in 3 places and one of the tubes connecting the drop out !

i built her up anyway.. lol

God that brings back memories seeing two odd wheels. As a kid, round our way, even if you didnt have a bike you could build one after an afternoon looking down back allies, wasteland, railway embankments  ;) and the like. They often ended up looking like this.

Top build :daumenhoch:

Just been reading through all this mission, fantastic and what makes me laugh so so hard is the fact that this bike must have been only 1/4 of a mile from Retrogeezers old house he would be gutted if he knew, strangley I only live half mile up the road. :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

In fact there should be an old 82 GT pro on the north farnborough train line as me and my mates used to tag and spray all the bridges round there, remember getting chased by the transport police and my mate left his bike stashed in the bushes and never found it again, his old man was not impressed. :LolLolLolLol:

I used to live in Frimley and used to go some woods near Rectory road where there were a few jumps.
Great thread.
My friends pulled what was probably a nicked BMX out of a lake in Camberley. We took it home but as it was a pile we decided to bury it in the local wood in case we got done for pinching it. I wonder if it's still there, possibly only the plastic pedals are left.

Now where's my torch and balaclava !
