Title: Retro paint jobs
Post by: oldschoolace on February 05, 2012, 01:26 AM
Boo hiss, yes i know its not a bmx  ;) but has anyone ever done a paint job like you used to get on high end road bikes like this?

I recon with the right frame, maybe one of the English lugged ones or dare i say it a goose, the right paint and chrome dropouts combo could look great.

Im now thinking motomag goose with chrome drops and the junction between paint and chrome straddled with the gold and chrome reflector decals you normally put on the seat stays (http://www.pistonheads.com/inc/images/scratchchin.gif)

Cook Bros had a couple of paint schemes on their frames slightly similar to this, think it was one of their 81 frames.

Always fancied one of these but you dont see them that often. Interesting how some companies (wethepeople for one) are looking at similar methods of building frames with investment cast sections

I have a Vitus frame and forks like the blue one but it is all silver, even rarer than the frames are the forks.  The Vitus frames were actually glued together to make them lighter.

Sort of yeah but the chrome sections need to be much smaller. Probably 2/3 inches below the 990 mount and only about a third of the fork

This is my Vitus with the rare Vitus forks (no the forks are not bent they just have the most ridiculous rake ever, LOL).
