Nice that... :daumenhoch:
Beringer bars for a change... ;D
Are those canti mounts on the forks?
-
yep, the beringers. Love 'em
-
Nice. You dont see many 1 1/8th Holmes (NG or normal). :daumenhoch:
-
had a friend who had one of the original 1 1/8" holmes, was so jealous, ha, your bike looks sweet, I wanna see a front brake!
-
That is one sweet looking Holmes :smitten: :smitten:
-
nice, i do like a red 1&18th holmes :daumenhoch:

S&M Holmes inch and an eighth HXL7593
Pitch-faux-ks
Profile GDH, whippit 39t
Challenger stem, velo orange headset, beringer bars, power paws, jive nuts
Odyssey pedals, levers, evo2 brake (chrome)
Sun big city lites, DT swiss spokes, TNT hubs
Odyssey tyres 2.2/1.9
S&M seat, redline post, GT clamp
Shimano deore cantis to be fitted, I need to grind some flats onto the fork topnut first. My cable will use a barrel adjuster dropped into the topnut's hexhole, which will mean I can't adjust the topnut once the frontbrake is cabled up, might just bed the headset in first before I start messing with it again!
Luscious paint by SuperBikeDan, glossy red with a light copper sparkle. Hope it shows up well on here. You can't see the sparkle from more than 3 metres or so away, but when you look closely it makes your eyes go funny, very 3D effect to the paint!

-
those last pics of the build look awsome ben :daumenhoch:
-
thanks dan, i'm delighted with your paintwork, the pictures here don't show the true effect unfortunately. I managed to put it together without scratching it too!
-
That's a smart Holmes, homes - great build :4_17_5:

Neat! :daumenhoch:
Torque those hanger grub screws nice and tight though or it's endo city ;) (I was always paranoid running a front canti set up).
-
yep, they are allen key bendingly tight. I've run cantis for years, never had a problem yet. Its straightforward doing the lugs but drilling the forks can be a pain, the steel is so hard it eats drillbits. I like it because it looks neat, keeps friction to a minimum and stops so well with any old blocks. Very easy to set up and maintain.
-
Looks very nice.
Will the front cable hanger not scratch the paintwork? Does the cable not wear away on the forks?
-
No, and No. Cable hole is angled for smooth enrty and exit (fnarr fnarr) There's bugger-all force between cable hanger and forks. I've run this system since 1996, never had a cable failure, it took several years of regular use to wear any paint away.. :)
-
Thanks, Just from the front it looks like the hanger is sitting on the forks.
-
What's the difference running a canti brake over the usual 990?
Just wondering, i've got some 990 forks with a fly brake and it works really well, like hitting a wall!
Some outdoor pics on a nice day wouldn't go amiss... ;)
-
Oh yeah, it touches a little when brake is pulled but it's such light pressure that you can't tell. My old GSport fork crown was made of such hard stuff that it eventually wore a concave shape into the bolthead of a diacompe hanger! Took abaout 4 years though, when I was riding a lot more. This hanger is soft ally, softer than the paint!
Betty, I've just stuck to the "if it ain't broke..." rule here, I ditched my nippon, must've been 1995, and run this system ever since. Only had 2 pairs of forks for the next 10 years so I never needed/wanted 990's. The cable loop is soooooo 80's dear!!!
-
very nice :daumenhoch:
-
:4_17_5: looks real nice, loving the color , quality, :daumenhoch: never seen that brake set up before , saw the before shots and thought you were going to run a V brake didn't realise it was canti, very clever :coolsmiley:

Thanks, I can't take the credit for the idea, it was that wotsisface french. :Great_Britain:
