Title: Stuck freewheel
Post by: Devilock on February 07, 2012, 02:50 PM
Bastard thing! It makes it more difficult because i dont have a vice, just a 32mm spanner.
I feel stupid posting this but just wondered if there are any tips apart from continued use of force!
Pissing me off!

Tiny tip - you could secure the vice to a plank of wood for leverage - I've had to since me shed collapsed..........

i have the same problem  :-\  and for something like a stuck freewheel you have to have one thats bolted to a heavy base ... a clamp on one aint worth sh*t

I use a big vice, before I got a workbench (like I said, me shed fell in on itself) I bolted it to a plankof wood. Plenty o'leverage then. You're right about the clamp on vices though - snapped one clean in two getting a stuck crank arm off.

Try  some plusgas on it, or soaking it with diesel but not gauranteed to work and by the time you have bought the stuff LBS would have got it off.....

i took a flip/flop ally wheel from a 1963 racing bike in to the bike shop. the fixed wheel was seized and the freewheel fitting edges were mangled!! neither had been off for decades but i got it back 60secs later , bits in a bag, no charge!

+1

I did this; my shop did charge me but it was like £3 or something and it took them a good 10+ minutes to get it off so, I really was not bothered about the charge..

Good luck!

Ha! Well its probably because 99% of the chip shops are owned by ethnic minorities who are not aware of the quite normal dish of gravy & chips! Whats up with the fishcakes...?!!

I think i know what shop it is now...! Yeah Ive spoken to him about bmx! Its a very cramped shop!

not mashed up fish/potato covered in breadcrumbs  :idiot2: that a rissole

I reckon most of the chippys in Brum are shit anyway! There is one near me that gives you the option of cooking the chips in dripping...

I had one stuck on a bare hub before, I put in a load of old spokes and fastened it to a plank of wood using fencing staples
Over the spokes !!!

I'm still struggling years later with this barsteward :tickedoff: local bike shop only managed to scrape the otherwise pristine hubs flanges! Additional problem on the cluster side is that it was cut out of the wheel so stubby little spokes left so cannot re-lace - grateful for any ideas or offers of help - sorry for jumping on your post too!!
