Title: Nice little score, GT race Bike
Post by: martin46 on February 18, 2012, 12:43 PM
Took delivery of this yesterday. Dont know much about it really, year/model etc but looks mid school 90's to me and has some real nice parts on. Set up a bit hoopty for my liking but is in good survivor condition so gonna strip clean regrease and reasemble. Any info would be much appreciated Cheers :)

nice score :daumenhoch:

looks to be mid to late 90's i.e 95-99 ish due to having cantis no v brakes (hanger gives it away)

the seat clamp, stem, forks and aheadset are exactly the same as the mk1 (94) & mk2 (95) gt fuelers

looks like you got a great deal as the wheels & cranks on their own are worth a few hundred :daumenhoch:

it looks to me like a 95-97 mach 2. the hanger in the seatstay bridge is what defines it whereas the power series and speed series both came with v brakes so didnt have the cable hanger. also the top tube was shorter on the mach two, usually 19- 20 inches. the code on the bb shell will be a way to get it accurately identified and will also tell you where it was made. looks flipping brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stripped it down today, going to have to replace the stem bolts and seat clamp bolt with some nice stainless ones as they're corroded and chewed. Also unfortuantely one one of the Cantilevers has been overtightened and cracked, not sure if it can be repaired so may have to try and find a replacement for that too. Otherwise all is good and just needs a good clean up and a bit of grease. No serial number on the BB shell, just the one on the dropout. Defintately convinced this is a 1995 USA Speed Series PRO XXL from comments here, the serial number and my own research.

sorry kev but the pro series were chromoly and the speed series team that you posted is actually a mach 2 also with speed series decals. you can get the exact frame details from the id number anywho. still a mint bike :)

I know the pro series is chromoly and the speed series is alloy, I have a pro series and a early gt fueler, I was saying that the pro series did come with the hanger when u said they didn't, the speed series I posted was just a quick find so I didn't realise it was actually a mach 1 :daumenhoch:
