Title: Cleaning out Seat tube
Post by: Knoxxy on March 15, 2012, 09:38 AM
I'm building a Redline cruiser & went to put seat post in.
It sounds horrible & the post is super tight, and scratched when removed.
Sounds like the tube is full of rust.

Any tips for cleaning out the tube before fitting?
Thanks.
Knoxxy.

I use a bottle brush you can get in homebrew shops + a squirt of WD-40 to give em a good blast out :)

Also check for weld spatter on the inside of the tube where the seat stays meet the seattube - if there is some get a metal file and give it a going over.

Also check the slit/hole at the top.

If its just rust will the seatpost tube with vinegar. This will clean all the rust off in a couple of hours  ;)
