Title: Thinking of getting a new school rider
Post by: Swivel on March 16, 2012, 12:24 PM
I'm seriously thinking of buying a used new school bike to ride, perhaps even for the London rides. I've seen a few bikes and just wanted to find out what you thought?

Haro 200.1
Haro F1
Haro ZX
Subrosa Tiro
GT Slammer

I quite like the look of the Subrosa though, its all black but has a few coloured parts, what are they like? Are they light?

Also the GT Slammer didn't look too bad.

Ain't looking to spend a fortune hence looking for a used one but ideally I need something fairly light.

Thanks,

Matt  :)

would def recommend a NS for messing about on ramps n that, but tbh not for the london rides (unless you jack the seat right up)
old school all the way for riding any kind of distance, at least you can sit down while you pedal  :daumenhoch:

I wouldn't have fancied doing London to Brighton on my mirraco

:) Whatever you for make sure you get one with a long enough toptube.A lot of bikes at this price range are 19.5/20 inch :daumenhoch:

Thanks chaps, i'll probably jack the seat right up, I couldn't ride with it all the way down lol.

John, what's the Mirraco like?

The haro i've seen is this, reflectors and bell would need removing lol

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130663357659&fromMakeTrack=true#ht_500wt_1413

Anyone know what model this is?

Thanks chaps, i'll probably jack the seat right up, I couldn't ride with it all the way down lol.

John, what's the Mirraco like?

I'm quite taken with it - got it for just over a ton picked up and plenty big enough for me with a 20.8" TT (full cromo too)
Now I'm more used to it has improved my riding a bit, managed to clear the jump box at BR which wasn't happening on the haro before

Only things I didn't like were the bar height (fixed with topload stem from Mr Voivod) and the lack of front brake - got some lugged forks for £12  :daumenhoch:

Keep you eye out on ebay, if you're a jammy **** like peter J you might even find something that's been listed wrong

What's your budget Matt?

Will the parts stay on a ns better Matt?

No offence, but you can't ride for toffee bud - most riders our age progress to a ns as their os is holding them back skills-wise so why you want one is not the right reason. Set up an os with new wheels and a few better parts to ride mate and see how you get on. That's what we did bitd and why you're not enjoying your catologue spec rides mate, we used to change everything to get them right.

Stopnwasting your money on stuff you don't need mate and build an os to ride! Nuff said.

Post by: Swivel on March 16, 2012, 01:17 PM
Spen take a chill pill, what the feck are you going on about lol.

I want a ns because of the way they look not for riding off walls. I have a 90's sport but just fancy a ns, end of.
Title: Re: Thinking of getting a new school rider
Post by: Swivel on March 16, 2012, 01:19 PM
And by the way Spen, done 4 rides since that time I had a fecking bolt fly out of my crank and had no issues since. Some people still remind me of that, its old hat... yawn...

:LolLolLolLol: spen comes across as soooooo aggressive sometimes
im sure he didnt mean that as it reads matt, at least i hope not

i have toyed with the idea of a ns ride and really fancied the sunday chrome aaron ross special edition
until spen told me i wasnt allowed  :2funny:

What's your budget Matt?

Rob, dunno mate, just putting out feelers at the moment on what I should go for but instead get shit from people, get a bit fed up with this site at times for that.

Matty, this guy is selling his Subrosa Armada. I know it's $500 but break it down to £'s and it's worth it for the parts on it.

6th bike down.....

The bike that i picked up for Bendy was awesome for the price. Absolutely lovely to ride, nice and light and lovely paintjob.
If i was to go back into the world of NS then i would deffo get one of those.

Not a Haro so that prob counts you out Matt  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

I quite fancy a Subrosa actually mate...

As usual i've tried too much sarcasm in my reply.

Basically I don't get why youn want a ns Matt? Great for park riding yes, but is that what you want to do? Surely spend a bit of cash on one of your scruffiest Haros with some smooth rider parts might be a better idea is what I meant.

I will always take the pish out of your crank falling off as that's what we do here mate, we rip into each other all day! It's funnier when you bite as well...... So don't be so touchy mate as you know I love you buddy ;-)

I know mate, we're good  ;)

Its friday, I need a beer, been a stressful day really.

Still fancy a NS though.

I have a few masters as you know but they don't ride that well for long distance, my sport is better but I just fancy something lighter that I can chuck about a bit, if its shit, it'll be in the for sale section soon enough lol.

Matt, I have a S&M LTF (20.75) that's for sale now, frame only.  They're a fcuking cool looking thing, tapered tubes, lots of nice detailing etc. and obviously, Lighter Than Fcuk.

I suspect it's the kind of thing you're after as it has some character about it. Of course you'd have to source components for it, but it's a thing of beauty for sure.

Gingerholmes is also looking to sell some stuff so between us we could put a whole bike together for you.

Don't expect it to be cheap, but it would be good  ;)

Trust me when I tell you, you don't want a low budget newschool bike - you'll be disappointed.

Jim picked me this up STEREO ELECTRO 2011 for £250 was £469 new - it's as clean as you like and has a fecking sweet colour - rides sweet and hopefully you can have a go on the London ride  :daumenhoch:

I would get a NS mate - you've been in the game long enough to have it all and try it all - so ! it won't be ridden that hard ~ who cares - old men drive Ferrari's and still enjoy them

shop around Matt - there are loads about but you just have to learn what is good from bad  :daumenhoch:

Matt I think you should leave it on the back burner until the London ride and then borrow bendys one for a bit. At least you can see what it is like to ride a new school.  :daumenhoch:

That's if he has the fookin brake sorted by then!!  :-X :LolLolLolLol:

What TT and head angle did you go for in the end Matt?

Or was it pretty.......... ;-)

I want to see you doing some tricks now on this London ride. Not the kind of trucks you offered me at MK the other year when you were pissed either, I had no idea how low you were prepared to go just for a NOS brake cable nipple........

Pics please - what did you buy?
Title: Re: Thinking of getting a new school rider
Post by: Swivel on March 19, 2012, 09:20 AM
Haha, quite happy to go low for a nipple you know me   ;D

Got a 2011 Subrosa Tiro, nicked it on the bay for £103, didn't think that price was too bad, got some decent parts on it also, read a few reviews thought that one might be a good start. Pics from tomorrow after I collect it  :)

Matt i've seen you ride mate. I suggest you offer to double to price if they still have the chainguard for your own safety...... Do your laces come undone still, or has your mom bought you velcro trainers now?

;-D

it could be worst, you could be like Adam and need a wheel chair at the end of the night  ;D

we still have a law that says it needs a chain guard and reflectors  ::)  they get taken off nearly every bike - what a waste of money just to be thrown away - nice one LAW  :crazy2:

gonna look sweet Mat - get some ride time on it before hand  ;)

Post by: Swivel on March 20, 2012, 10:30 AM
Picked it up last night, condition is ok, not amazing but I didn't expect that for £100. I'm gonna switch over a few bits, it needs new grips, new tyres, and a t-cut over the paintwork too. Intend to take it out a bit next week to get used to it. First thing I noticed is how light it was and that's what i'm after :)

Glen, sorry Rich - have you still got your NS ramp rider as you've been conspicuous by your absence this year with your Suspect brothers. We were actually wondering if you may need to reapply for membership.......

Anyway, it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling when I see all my young ramp padwans giving each other advice. My work here on planet Earth is done ;-)

Here it is, my Subby I bought for £100. I've spent an extra £85 on it, new rear Primo wheel, New Grips, New Pedals, New Seat post, Timber Verde seat, New Izumi chain and new Xposure Dave tyres, I love the brown parts in new school so couldn't resist! I had a mate give me some Verde bars with better rise, just need to get them powdered and his a bike technician so checked it overall and thought it was good for the money. She rides lovely, total change from my 90's haro sport, with the Primo wheel just seems so smooth!

Seat post is high I know but feck am I riding it low down, I need my knees for footy lol.

Matt  ;)

Matt is it a flip-flop hub? If so, wizz the 16t off and buy an oddysey 13t to give you a chance to pedal or if you can't find a 13 drop a 14 on with a 39t ring.

I ran 36/13 on my Badlander for a while until I got 25/9 to fit with a bit of hacking and chopping - feels the same as an o/s 44/16 bud..... ;-)

You can't ride a 30/16 ya loon, you'll be knackered at the first pub!
