Hey Griff - well done for trying to organise this.  Before I hit a vote button:

1 Got a rough idea of cost? Or, whats the total hire cost so we can take a stab at likely individual costs..
2 what day of the week are you thinking?
3 what time of day are you thinking?
4 for the 4th option, will there be plenty of lube provided?

ta,

Paul

1 Got a rough idea of cost? Or, whats the total hire cost so we can take a stab at likely individual costs.. not a clue at this stage - they've just asked for numbers, will share more as soon as I get an answer
2 what day of the week are you thinking? saturday
3 what time of day are you thinking? when all the kids have gone home - normal times for rad lock-ins are 9-midnight
4 for the 4th option, will there be plenty of lube provided? if you need it, some of the guys on here prefer going 'old-skool'  :D

Okay - just hit the Defo Interested option but skint so will very much be dependant on price..

Very exciting as always very jealous when I hear of the northern mass-ive getting a chance to ride cool indoor parks, without having to wear their cagoules..

thanks agian..

John they sent my enquiry onto the management team and they took about a week to reply saying no. but they did say they might look at doing it later once the place had bedded in.   fingers crossed  :daumenhoch:mate as we can get a regular thing going.

fingers still crossed!

you'd think it makes sense for them - surely the biggest problem for them is constantly trying to recruit new customers as kids get older and 'grow out' of it
(not much chance of that with us  ;D)

had another email back from the lady there after I asked about capacity

she said the normal capacity is 136  :D
has anyone been to this place, only I can't imagine it's that big if corby is 'only' 80 or so

imagine going on a regular session with 135 scooter kids buzzing around you!

still waiting for costs/management decision

I was just quoting from the email  ;D

maybe that's the capacity for 7 year olds on scooters
some of them are pretty small

what's the place like Glen? ok for various skill levels?
couldn't get the gallery section to work properly on here

;D nice editing there Glen  :daumenhoch:

think 136 is a tad optimistic if the 3ft ramp is to scale
still wouldn't mind a go though

Any news John?

still no word yet, have sent another mail tonight asking for an update on their decision.. will have course let everyone know either way
noticed that there was a nice edit of the rad shop riders in the place, do you think there's any mileage in asking them to put a word in?
Title: Re: trying to organise a rad lock-in in hemel hempstead indoor park, interested?
Post by: griff on March 23, 2012, 08:19 PM
well.....

had an email tonight saying this

"we are still running it past senior management but we could possibly look at 10pm- midnight at a cost of £10 per head minimum booking 50 with strictly no alcohol allowed on the premises - how does that sound to you ?"

I've already replied that this is a bit expensive vs other nights and that given we would probably have fewer riders maybe they could reduce the price a little
Also mentioned that normally we have 3 hours (but given that they are normally open till 10pm 9-midnight is not going to be feasible for them)

Have suggested that she makes it £450 and if there is room in the park that potentially people could arrive a bit earlier
How does that sound to you guys? If they agree to take a bit less would mean that if we get 30 riders would cost £15 each.....

let me know what you think

cheers

griff

here's a little edit of the place from a recent visit by some riders from the rad shop, just to whet your appetites..

couldn't work out how to embed the video, hopefully link will work
Title: Re: trying to organise a rad lock-in in hemel hempstead indoor park, interested?
Post by: griff on March 23, 2012, 09:33 PM
30 would be ok, 50 would be stupid!

but it has a capacity of 136?  ;D
if I can get the price down a bit 30 will be the max I reckon - but need to find out if peeps are ok with paying (in any case I doubt we'll get 50 anyhow)
not an issue for me as I'll be saving on fuel/digs as it's a bit closer, would also prefer to go when there's no kids about
Title: Re: trying to organise a rad lock-in in hemel hempstead indoor park, interested?
Post by: Woz on March 25, 2012, 08:41 PM
Griff, seems to me that to get even 30 riders at £15 for 2 hours maybe touching on the side of optimistic, especially as only 21 people have responded to this link and we usually ride for 3 hours for £10-£15.
Wish this wasn't the case but especially with the current ecom climate I think your going to be struggling.

Maybe we should consider riding on a normal night for a trail first just to check out the park for us more local riders, I know it won't be the same with all the kids and scooters etc but if we can get a few of us it still might be a crack. What do you reckon?

know what you mean woz, but for local boys it's still cheaper than having to drive for 4 hours to the boardroom & back
if we could get a few together it might be ok though, maybe if I book a day off could go in the week when the fleas are at school

will check ebay and see if they have any cartoon pants for us to wear so we can 'blend in'

NEWSFLASH

The lady at XC has emailed me to say this has been approved  :2gunsfiring_v1:

conditions - must be paid for a month in advance, £450 for up to 50 riders (I wouldn't have that many in, say 30 max which would be 15 each

quote from her email..
"event must be paid for 1 month in advance
no smoking allowed/alcohol on the premises
only food purchased from us may be consumed (we can arrange a burger&chips type meal @ an additional £7 per head which would need to be ordered in advance)
due to the times and security of the premises there will be limited  leaving/re-admittance -  we can try and sort out for cigarette breaks for you if required.
All I need to proceed will be a selection of dates that you are hoping for"

so.. do we want to do this then? I propose one of the Saturdays in June so please let me know your preferred dates out of the ones below and I'll see if it's feasible to make a booking. I've asked her what the score is for riders who want to come early and whether spectators are allowed, will let you know when I get a reply

Please add your name to any of the dates below that you can make  :daumenhoch:

Well worth pointing out, if the weather is very wet the park gets soaked. It's got one open wall. Make sure you get a "bad weather" clause in so if its wet we don't have to still pay

Yes, yes, I know its a brand new build and its so so stupid that its not water proof but that's a whole 'nother conversation that's been going all winter!

Hold on... just re-read all of this thread.

50 people for a 2hr session!  :wtf:... from experience I'd say you will struggle to get 30 ... never mind 50.

Too much polishing and not enough peddling on RADBMX

You are better off going for 30 people at £15/£16 a head to cover the cost of £500 that they are looking for.

...2 hrs is a bit brief though.

edna - re-re-read it again - I'm saying 30 max (they asked for 500, I got them down to 450)
that works out to 15 each, still don't know if they will let peeps in early (as their regular sessions go on until 10) but have asked about it and will let peeps know ASAP

will request a date once I know what's the most popular saturday in June - so far got 2 names down for the 9th and 16th (including me)  ::)

soon as I know best date I will start collecting moneys as they want paying up front

Another useful point:

The park charge £8.10 for a normal session. Thats £8.10 to ride, even if its ram packed with 100+ scooter kids. AND there's no reduction if you only turn up for the last hour (or less). £15 for 2 hours, when there are less than 50 people in there isnt great, but its WAY better than the place usually is. Just hope that its a dry evening

True Rob, but it would save you driving for nearly 4 hours.

Like I said, I've asked if it's possible for peeps to turn up early and get the usual 3 hours in - problem is they're open until 10pm and even if they were up for it not sure if many peeps would want to be riding after midnight (looks for ambulance smiley)

Unless a few more people show some interest it's all theoretical anyway....

I've sent another email to the lady at XC asking for a response

Have asked if riders can come early, or if not feasible then can we run to 1am?
Have asked if we are liable to pay if bad weather prevents the event going ahead (Thanks alex had no idea about the open wall)
Have asked if spectators can attend
Told her that 9th June is the intended date, so if you can make this date stick your name on the end of the list please *assume we can hopefully get 3 hours in

Im facebook friends with XC park. Its great cos they put up posts every day saying if the indoor park is open or not.
Guess what ? ...... some of the park is closed today cos its wet from rain last night.  :crazy2:

Did they forget they were building it in England or something  :crazy2:

Its comedy Gold getting the XC fb updates:

XC
Hey guys, unfortunately the far side of the park will be closed today aswell as the vert wall

Darcy Frear: Wait... you're an indoor park, aren't you?

Ross Thomson Nelson: .... HA..HA

Gavin Gavlarr: I've heard this before, haven't I?

Alex Diss: the wettest indoor scoot park around

Sporkface Jordan: Why would you build a purpose built venue with a skatepark with only 3 walls? The whole point of an indoor park is that you ride there whatever the weather is doing outside

Ollie Epps: How long is it going to be before you realise your mistake and cover that wall?

here's the latest news - I asked if we can go until 1am & get 3 hours, whether spectators are allowed and also whether we're liable to pay if rain stops play...

"We cannot extend the finish time due to our licence I am afraid

--spectating from the cafe would just be charged at normal admission prices - £2.20-would need to know the number beforehand as it is an out of hours booking
-spectating from inside the park would require a disclaimer and would need to be include in your maximum number.
- re starting early and going into the previous session it would be £5 for 3 hrs"

didn't get an answer about a bad weather refund, so have asked again - in the meantime here's the list of potentials to date (need 30 riders so add your name on the list please)

Griff, i'd scrap it and just try sorting out the problems in the middle east, you'll get much more co-operation  ;D

they don't like helping you out much do they

fook the middle east
There's too many problems
They just get in the way
We sure could live without them
They hijack our planes
They raise our oil prices
We'll kill them all and have a ball
And end their fookin' crisis
BEIRUT, LEBANON-Won't exist once we're done
LIBYA, IRAN-We'll flush the bastards down the can
SYRIANS and SHIITES-Crush their faces with our might
Then Israel and Egypt can live in peace without these dicks

I'm confused - shall I put you down with a +1 then Glem?  ;D
and stop moaning Rob FFS it's only round the corner from you

BTW just had another reply re: weather stuff

"of course if we are closed then no monies would be payable but we would likewise not be liable for any out of pocket expenses. We rarely close because of weather but on occasion do have partial closures- i would have course keep you informed of any possible issues the morning of the booking-fingers crossed weather will be good !!!"

have asked what 'out of pocket expenses' would be, just trying to be clear and upfront with you all and get the details before asking for any money

just had a reply - all she meant by out of pocket expenses was that they wouldn't pay for travelling expenses/inconvenience if they had to close the park, which is fair enough provided that she lets me know on the day if there are any issues with weather

Deffo can't make it Griff as i'm scared of big cities and the people down there talk funny and stare at me when I point at the streetlights shouting "but how do you light it?"

Also I didn't bit the gay option on my say-nav so it has no .aps south of Birmingham. Sorry mate.....

Oh, and I don't ride concrete anymore as I did a lot of damage to myself last time I did.

know what you mean, but at current number that's £22.50 each for 2 hours, or £27.50 for 2 hours private riding + 3 hours public session
all I can say is I'm trying to get it going - if we don't get the numbers then I'll still be a regular at the boardroom etc
just thought that with the lack of a venue in the south and a lot of peeps on rad complaining about all the events up north this was worth a shot

one thing is for sure though, after all the emails it took to get this far I won't be organising another one (ever)
so if anyone does fancy it you've got a couple of days to get your name down  :2gunsfiring_v1:

...thats what I go through everytime I organise one for anywhere other than the Boardroom... and I usually end up paying out then hoping that the numbers are sufficient to pay it... never fun though... herding cats etc

i havent read the whole thread but it looks like youre struggling to get numbers to make it viable. well........ I'm mates with management there, i live about 100 yards away from it and its about 200 yards from the skislope where i build the park. I fitted the helped fitting the shops out before the skatepark opened so had a few snide sessions when it was empty! :daumenhoch:
My mate who is one of the managers gets to snowboard for free so we can skate for free (yes, i said skate.. sorry, thats what i mostly do in skateparks) I'll have a word with him and see if he can do a cheeky freebie for 20. not promising anything but i'll let you know.

Griff ? WTF i'm happy to pay upto £20 for a couple of hours for a ride somewhere almost local, it may be more than some nights out but it's not costing me £50 in diesel!

Come on guys if you want a night out that is more local than the usual midlands jaunt shout up and lets get it on, or else stop complaining there is nothing in the south!  :knuppel2:

Rant over. :tickedoff:

agreed Woz, but seeing as I've had feedback already that £15 is a bit much for just a couple of hours and not got to enough people to make that, more people will probably drop out and just push the price up too much  :( I really wanted it to happen, but not to the degree that I'd stump up £450 of my own money without knowing I'd get it all back

it's a shame but on the upside at least the door is potentially open for us to do something in the future...

Gutted for you Griff, that's  slack of your southern brothers not supporting such a gallant effort.....

See you in the north then bud. Doncaster is open now - get your jabs up to date and dust your passport off and let's ride!

That's a shame! It's only a few places surely we could just pay a little bit more? I was looking forward to this!

Top effort Griff. Just so you know, I've got no problem paying £20.

Please LMK if this is likely to happen anytime in the future.

Laters,

G.

Fair play for all the graft you put in Griff... I am gonna go back to looking through the open wall and hoping for a time when the scooter fad has been shoved in the back of shed to make way for the latest n greatest money spinner.

If this ever materialises then I am there with bells on.  :daumenhoch:

While I do think we southerners need to be less wet I do also think that the price XC was asking was a tad OTT. It's not huge and as was said previously 30 people would be comfortable, 50 would be less so. :-\

Thanks again for trying! :4_17_5:

I'll pass the feedback on to Nikki at the park - maybe they'll soften a bit more on the price if they think there's more chance of it going ahead
