Seems like a lot of OS riders are moving towards New school rides, me included, but I've seen a few topics of late re new school rides >:D
maybe its the heat of spring, confusing the old grey matter :D
-
Never
Old School till i die. :2funny:
-
mid school for me 8)
-
New skool bikes are awesome.. :daumenhoch: They actually have the look an feel of an OS ride (bar the low piv seat and 25/9) and they can take the abuse of a modern rider.
Some of these new chrome parts look very retro. Gone are the days of fat ugly tubing and 48's (from the darker days of BMX)
Cheers

the way prices are going mate it's cheaper to buy new school :LolLolLolLol:

I just read the post about the Haro Group 1 Vicount Dominator Seat and thought the same thing, you could buy a new bike for that ??? :LolLolLolLol:

Never :daumenhoch:
The older the better ;)

New school since i started riding again, nearly five years ago now...
And i'm still shite... ;D

I agree they are awesome, not sure the look and feel is the same, I've just rode my NS for the first time today and it felt very different. seemed to have a lot more body weight over the front end. I guess as i get used to not having a seat, that will feel more natural? The lightness of the bike is also a strange feeling. God knows how people manage brakeless (I've already set about sorting a rear brake):LolLolLolLol:

Agreed, they're nowt like an os bike, longer top tube, steeper head angle, shorter rear end
Ride loads better.... :daumenhoch:

For riding.......there's no comparison. old for looking at and cruising, new for riding.
Although once you embrace new school you start to love the look of them and appreciate the work that goes into making them.

While on the subject, this is mine...

Sorry, I meant early - mid 80's geometry...
Actually, I have started to fit a lot or rear brakes again (gyro's especially). The kids are 'getting over' the idea of being brakeless, as you just don't have the control that you need for riding street and park.

...absolutely on the money :daumenhoch:

I'm thinking i need to change the tyres, for something a bit more taramc friendly, put a rear brake on and get some decals on somewhere (But i can't find KHE decals anywhere)

Loving that diggler :daumenhoch:

I just 'new school pimped' my daughter's Ripper.... Fortunately, she's only 10, so she isn't going to be flinging it around ::)

i got a new school just to get myself back on a bmx
i have been collecting parts for the last few months to restore my old school bikes almost have everything so shall be making a start on them soon
but for now i am enjoying my new school
-
Apart from the colour and decals do they not all look the same, a little boring. ???
-
Once my sport is completed I doubt I'll ride my new school much
-
old for looking at and cruising, new for proper riding :daumenhoch:

Says Adam who uses those seats all the time on
-

I agree. ::)
Never ridden a new school so I can't comment on how they ride though. Bendy, I'll have to have a go on yours on the London Fools' Ride.
Still enjoy building and the London rides so no need for new school.
-
I'm not really into new school, but I do fancy one of the twin top tube Supercross'
They look so cool, sadly have bugger all budget for it at the moment, Boo-Fookin-Hoo!
-
Dunno about new-school all looking the same. They've all got the same differences that old/mid stuff had really - it's just the differences are smaller size-wise, ie - sprocket differences are the same as yester-year - they're just smaller; frames still have different geo and gussets, stems etc, etc.
The differences are less noticable at a distance - you need to get up close and look to see them :)
And I'm refraining from commenting on the person that said the 'dark days' of bmx involved big tubing and 48 spoke wheels......bah humbug ;D

so wrong :2gunsfiring_v1:

your welcome to have a go - it will feel different but over time you get use to it
the old school bmx ~ when getting on a mates and having a go, you knew it was different to yours and so it was ok on how it felt
the new school ~ they do look a bit a like and when you ride your mates, it not such a big difference but more like a subtle chances in geometry, some further than others but that is how they feel
-
Welcome to throw your leg over mine as well if you want :daumenhoch:
-
got back into BMX for old school
got a passion for riding so got mid school
argued the case for riding old/mid due to lack of style in new.
found a new school frame that looks old school.
Bought it.
The rest is yet to happen.
I still hate big black motorbike tyres, no brakes, rusty raw frames and girls jeans so I'm going 'new school' in my own way. That's fair enough innit :daumenhoch:
-
Brought it.
The Spellchecker General* will be after you for that one Ed ;)

My Skavenger Bridge, strapping some dyno forkstanders to it for shits and giggles.
I prefer riding newschool to oldschool, but mainly because if i come a cropper on a newschool replacing a broken part doesn't require a bank loan.
Besides, maybe it's just me but when riding oldschool i don't feel comfortable with pushing the bike very hard, especially rides with mag wheels, (since i'm a fat tw@t).

Ok it wasn't all fat tubing and 48's.. ::) but in the 90's only the decent stuff was decent and the rest wasn't great (in my opinion of course). I worked in a bike shop in this period and it was all MTB's MTB's... Many bike companies appeared to fall out of favour with BMX (although the brands that survived the 80's, kept on going and producing decent stuff). Now that there has been a surge in BMX, there are more and more companies springing up, producing quality BMX's from £200+ I personally refer to this 'mid' period as the 'dark days of BMX'... (my opinion of course)
Hey, but if you do Mid School and you love 'em, then that's all that matters..... :daumenhoch: They're still BMX's. 8)
The new stuff that is coming out at the moment is fantastic. I own a bike shop now and deal with many many BMX brands. This is damn good clobber. I agree with the idea that OS is for cruisin', restoring, showing and new school is for thrashing and enjoying BMX as it was intended over 35 years ago.. :daumenhoch:
Cheers

I was only pulling your leg fella :daumenhoch: Each to their own really - you like what you like, and don't like what you don't :)
But - it's the same for every period in bmx - decent stuff is decent, and the majority of the rest made good starter bikes (or not in some cases). A huge amount of the companies you see today sprang up in the 'mid school' period, or have spin-off companies now. The only real difference in mid-school is there were fewer bikes/parts produced than in earlier periods, and riding styles changed = bike frames/parts changed.
Anyhow - I've gone off topic....... :D

moochin' round on this taking some getting used to , not being a very talented rider i have to work hard on even the easy ticks etc had real problems getting used to the way this feels all very over the bars , but its growing on me , think the frame was quite pricy when new but got this new and cheap tis the lite version so full cromo, figured i'd give it a bash , had gyro on it then took it off ;D chipped all the front end paint so spray bombed the front n kept a few mid parts that i :smitten: just kneed to get a newer set of wheels sorted mainly for the ever so important weight issue :D but no rush or rather no cash ;D

Just out of interest ed, (or anyone) which sort of new school bikes, brands, models, have that old school look? What did you get?
-
Have a look at knight bike co.........Google it, i like the red goose the best ;) but they do a nice performer as well.
-
And the Supercross (Eds one), and the Subrosa DTT. Standard will rattle you up a retro looking custom new-school (Rickstar for instance) :)
And don't forget the S&M Dirtbike.....
-
Yeah......Dan Harris has a gorgeous standard trickstar :smitten:
-
Think he's got two Rob  That reminds me - must pop up to see him :)
-
Thanks guys. 8)

Just got myself a Subrosa, its gonna have a few changes after the London ride including the f/f and bars to be Raw, love that look, SBD and Mick to do there magic on it but i'm looking forward to riding it more, weight difference to my mid-school rider is quite a bit, the Subby just feels so light :)

Brought it.

The weight difference is so noticable, my NS makes my other bikes feel like dead weight
-
Don't forget to add the condor to the list of retro type frame sets. Only a throw back to the 90's. But bloody lovely frames. :daumenhoch:
I went into custom riders and saw a new s&m I think it was a laf or ltf or something like that. It was in chrome. I must say it was stunning. I swear if I had the dosh I would have walked out with it. The was however one thing I didn't like. The seat tube started to taper around 2" under the top tube. I'm assuming this is to save weight. As its not needed if your only running a 3" pivotal post and a slammed seat. But I would want a much longer seat post that was at least 6" to 7" inside the tube. Not 2" due to the taper. As I feel it will put stress on the frame with my fat ass on it. I see s&m are making 300mm seat posts soon so I'm hoping they will change the frame so it has a straight tube. :daumenhoch:
-
New school chrome looks the boom, I'm a fan of chrome bikes os/mid or ns, you can't beat a nice shiney chrome bike :smitten: I've listed my GT performer, but couldn't bring myself to sell it, I think it will be the one bike I will keep for ever :smitten:
-
This is one of my fave bikes at the moment in my shop. Fit Inman 1. To me, this has the look and feel of an OS ride.... 8)

I just don't understand why you have to 'slam' the seat, in my opinion it spoils the whole look of the NS bikes, but I'm a 45yr old grumpy fooker so what do I know? :crazy2:

It's been like that since the 90's - gets the old seat out the way when you're doing stuff on the bike. You could run without a seat, but then you'd tear yourself a new one if things went wrong (and there's some stuff you need a seat for - no superman seat grabs with no seat ;) )
-
I like the look of that Supercross, are they any good?

Its not about a look, its that you ride a bmx stood up mostly - the tilt back on the seat also keeps it out the way for turndowns and easy to grab for seatgrabs. You dont have to slam it all the way - I run mine about 2" out on my park bike.
PS - I'm a 41yold grumpy fooker :P my bikes fairly newschool, but I still get grief for riding a standard 'tank'
-

As Pete says in Ed's post, the BB looks very high so it will feel like you're being thrown forward over the bars alot.
Looks cool but not sure how it'll handle but i'm sure Ed will have a blast with it :daumenhoch:
