Hockley called me today to say my Torker bars are not chrome worthy as they have rusted from the inside out near the bend by the knurling & have tiny holes so would only be seen even more if they were chromed.
To say im pissed off is an understatement!
But all is not lost as they can be powdered, so my Eddie King is candy red i figure the options are candy red or gold...
You guys got any suggestions please...?
-
i'd go w/the candy red Rich as it looks classic OS especially w/gold parts on it plus it'll cover any of the holes more if they show better than gold will due to being darker.I can always tell the difference between gold anno & candy coated gold especially if you're putting other gold annoed parts on it.But that's just me!
-
red rich, you sure hockley just didnt leave them too long in the stripper? :-\
-
Yeah i was thinking it would look better in candy red...but my concern is that it wont be the same hue...
I hear what you're saying about any flaws being less noticeable in candy red but not sure about frame, forks & bars in that colour...
Are there anymore suitable colours...?

Ha! He did say he was unsure the first time he saw them... There is some rust on them but didnt think for a second it would be an issue.
-
Just colour match it by mixing up some paint until it matches the EK & send him a sample to match or failing that send the frame if you're that worried about it.Matching frameset & bars always looks cool IMO unless your starting w/a horrible colour to begin with which candy red is deffo not.In fact it's one of my fave colours especially the darker shade that Torker used. Are you sending them to Dan or someone else?
-
Well Dan would be the obvious choice as Im thinking he would have no problem in sorting that particular tone.
But to avoid more shipping time they said they know someone where they are...not sure what to do...
-
Well it's a risk Rich not knowing the other guys work.I take it they're only charging you for the stripping now? If it was me I'd get them to send them to Dan & be safe in the knowledge they'll be done right cos if this other dude fux em' up you have to start all over again which'll cost a lot more & you'll be in for a much longer wait.
-
Can they not be copper plated, then chromed Rich? :-\
But, if it has to come to paint - I'd go with candy red :)

I'm sure someone as talented as sawzall could repair the affected area so you could have the bars chromed.

Yeah you're right Mike, probably not worth the risk for the sake of logistics... :crazy2:
