Title: Anyone up for building / riding trails in Wigan (Bickershaw) WN2?
Post by: Hellcat on March 30, 2012, 02:11 PM
1st Post.

Old(skool) BMXer back on it. Back from the 80's days of Burners & BMX Action Bike.

Near me in Wigan WN2 / Bickershaw there's miles & miles of old colliery land / slag heaps crying out for mad jumps.

Anyone up for it? Seriously, I'm gonna be out there digging & jumping this summer.

You can walk / bike for hours & not see anyone. MX riders go up there occasionally at the weekends, but it's a very sick spot, as it is just to thrash around. Hills, drops & bumps. Google map 'Bickershaw' & it's the area between Smith's Lane / Fir Tree Flash / Plank Lane.

A few spades & bodies & we could build something mega.

C'mon people. Miles & miles...

Dave, check Bickeshaw out. I live just up the road in Hindley Green (near Tamar pub), so hit me up & we can crash together...

Bickershaw Slag Heaps gonna be my Kevin Kostner's 'Field Of Dreams', just real & with a lot more air. Is such a mental, untapped large spot, can't believe know one's done it before... :coolsmiley:

J.T. Not sure, dunno if Lofty's was by Pennigton Flash, other side of the canal. That was ace. That's all nature park landscaped now.

Bickershaw Slag Heaps or 'NECROPOLIS' as I'm gonna call it from now on is about 50 times the size.

Thems the ones. Plank lane end,. Built by lofty and prec et al, early bmx adopters from the area...they all rode rippers from memory.

Yeah. Used to ride up there quite often. Til somone dug out nearly all the jumps, turned sweet tabletops into unrideable jagged-impale-yourself whoops that you wouldn't go near unless you deffo knew you would clear em.

Heard a few stories of 'the big boys' saying 'Let's have go on your bike', them coming back half an hour d later having swapped any parts that were better than there's, never experienced it, but heard a few stories.

If you're still local & interested in my Bickershaw Slag Heaps / NECROPOLIS project lemme know. Even just to ride or thrash about it as it is. It's sweet I tells ya. :daumenhoch:
