Title: My first BMX build, how did I do?
Post by: GaryN on April 09, 2012, 09:42 AM
I bought a Mirra Five Star intro a while back with the intention for changing a few bits and pieces but as it turned out the Mirra was too small for me. I had already started to buy a few parts for the Mirra so thought instead of upgrading that I would try and get enough parts to build a complete bike.

Here is a couple of pictures of the Mirra all cleaned up (it was in a bit of a state when I bought it) prior to me selling it on.

I joined the forum a few days ago and have finally finished my first build, heres the spec and I will get some better pictures as and when I can. The aim was to build up a bike using either quality secondhand (SH) parts or discounted/old stock (DOS) new parts to try and keep the price down (although still afraid to total it all up as i went a little  :crazy2:)

Here goes.

Frame - Failure Grade 2, Kelly green, 21'' TT (SH) .
Fork - Volume Genesis, originally aubergine but now sprayed black (DOS).
Headset - Eastern integrated (DOS).
Cranks - We The People Royal V2 (DOS).
Sprocket - We The People Supreme 33T (DOS).
Pedals - Gusset black plastic (DOS), in the market for something nicer, perhaps Shimano DX or DMR V12's.
Stem - S&M Redneck XLT (SH).
Seat post clamp - S&M Redneck (DOS).
Bars - Stolen Cell Block 28'' wide, 8'' rise (DOS).
Grips - DK (DOS).
Seat post - Kink pivotal (DOS).
Seat - Stolen (DOS).
Brake caliper - Salt+ Geo (SH), need to stop pads from squealing.
Brake lever - Eclat Sniper (DOS).
Brake cable - We The People Vector (DOS).
Chain - Alone Z510HX (DOS).
Wheels - FMF hubs 12T rear with additional sprockets 9-16T, 10mm hollow axles, sealed bearings with Sun Rhyno Lite rims (SH).
Tyres - Alienation Graffiti 2.25'' wide.

Here's some dodgy pictures.

Cheers.

Toed the brake pads in a little and that has reduced the noise a bit but will have to fit some different pads if I can't live with the sound.

A right old mis-mash of parts but it seems to go okay.
