Ain't talking about 540 whips over double decker buses...
My new oldie-newbie ( not very good in the 80's but want to be better now) philosophy is try a new trick each day & keep practising what you know.
So just what you tried / did / learned today... Whatever level...
I got my fakies cleaner (still not mastered em). A kid at the park (who has clean high airs) :coolsmiley: taught me about Disasters, & I got the hang of em, on a medium box not tried on the1/4 yet.
Worked on cleaner pipe 180's & trying alleyoop 180, find that helps me rather than carving scaredy 180's.
So that's it, what did you try / pull / master today? ;)
-
Today I walked down a wet grass bank without slipping over.
Tomorrow I shall be trying to smooth out my airs on vert. My lifes work it seems....
-
Didn't ride, don't much nowadays :(
Good on ya on the progress :4_17_5:
Get to ramp city next week, loads of small quarters to get those disasters dialled in :daumenhoch:

I'm trying the spines, in my head mainly at the moment :LolLolLolLol: Also trying my hardest to bunny hop 90o I'm hitting 45 most times so just trying to nail those and slowly work up to 90. My favs are drop offs anything i can, a few nice walls on my daily ride to work, i'm slowly getting higher walls to drop off and always trying to nail manuals. Front manuals are impossible for me but i give them a go :daumenhoch:
I was shite BITD and i'm not expecting to get to pro standards, but anything is good for me.
-
tinite im going to try nail the doubles at bradford clean and bars full crossed been struggling with it as bars are massive and my arms arent long enough ,gonna try em on another bike tonite with smaller bars
-
1st straight doubles Greg, Go on son :4_17_5:

I had a really nice hour alone in the park this morning before getting rained off. Mainly rolling back, still struggling to spin out, but it's getting closer every day. My backwards rolling's getting much smoother & more balanced. In particular getting my front wheel onto the top of the mini box and rolling back (my new trick to try for today). Also 90 degree endos into roll back, that seems to help with my spinning out after too.
Did a few 180's on the 1/4s, still not reaching the coping. My wrists are a bit sore from all the ramps this week so didn't do much on the 1/4s / jumpy side today.
I used to be able to clean 180 hop on my Ultra Burner bitd. My Hellcat's much longer & I struggle to 90 it, can't wait for my Eastern to arrive cos I'm sure 180 hops won't be long after...Oh, the possibilities. ::)
I really like this fells's How To's, really explain things well. Plus he's got an excellent 1st year's progress vid, which is giving me hope & something to aim for.
http://www.youtube.com/user/HalfTheSpeed?feature=g-all-lik
Good luck over the double MagII.
Keep up the good work Sink. I love early morning park riding. :)
-
Can't beat that early morning park time, i plug in the ipod with some rage against the machine and try some angry riding :daumenhoch: On the odd occasion the youngens have shite the bed and are there before me, my heart sinks and i usually ride right past :LolLolLolLol: but not all is lost as that gives me more time to find some nice drop offs :4_17_5:
-
I usually get there 7 or 8 if it's dry, and never seen a soul at that time.
If I go later and the kids are out I try and turn it into a positive, while it's a pain not being able to ride whichever bit whenever I want, most of them can air better & know more tricks than me, and I'll see what I can learn from them.

I'm usually out at 9am, i'm a lasy old coot and don't get out of bed till 8.30ish :LolLolLolLol:
I have been in a couple of times when the youngens are in there, usually if it's only 1 or 2 on bikes, but if there's scooters, boards and bikes it generally give it a miss.. But like you If i do go in, i like to watch and see what the kids can do, it kind of helps me work out what i need to do on anything i've been trying :daumenhoch:

Had an hours session in the Boardroom today with Jol & Len before the yoot arrived and to warm up for Corby.
Still trying to master rotation on my new bike. Got disasters sorted on the big banks but tanked the lord for my helmet when I head butted the floor trying 360s :crazy2:
also trying to master ally oops, manuals and actual 'aerials' out of a tranny :) the pegs have gone now so all my old kickturn shi* is out the window :buck2:
-
Had a good 90 mins on the park this morning. Alone for the first hour. Then as my energy was flagging this kid who's one of the best at airs I've seen there arrived, so that gave me a boost (cos I can ask him for tips).
Same tricks /attempts as usual: learning rollback / fakies, getting quite good at rollbacks, less good at flicking the front round. Trying to get ramp 180s cleaner and higher, and disasters.
-
Don't worry Helly
the bin-lids only turn up and ruin things when there off school.
In mine n The Crows experience with normal early mornings no-one turns up til Midday so when we get there at 9am we have the park to ourselves for hours.

some weird back peg mannule thing to bonuce front wheel to seat grab rocket mannule to bounce to mannules haha :LolLolLolLol: was quite fun.

:4_17_5:
jammy bastard with all that time on your hands .. i do 7-7 day shifts monday to friday and i'm either with my daughter or my fiancee of a weekend
.........somethings gotta give... :tickedoff: , putting my name down for the rampcity lock-in at the the end of this month .i NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to ride a park :daumenhoch:
-
Hurt my ankle with an off last night at Corby, so bailed earlyish, pub this afternoon, but felt a bit RAD after doing the LLP BMX arm/forearm cough to the barmaid!!(copyright L Lentini!)
Anyway, went to our local park where we have a spine and a kickturn ramp, spine is about 20", I did it about 6 months ago, but very scratty, but did it nonetheless. Today, having shambled it before, I was determined to do it properly, and I did, 1st 2 or 3 were shit, but over, then I thought, fook it, and did it properly, straight over, pushing the bars down once over the top, so much smoother, after a dozen or so goes, I started the carving approach I see the yoots doing on proper spines, easy peasy!!
I dare say, next time i'm confronted by a proper spine, i'll poop a bit and go round it, but just now, I'm feeling invincible!!!

Had a blissy 2 hrs alone in the park. Mainly working on rollbacks / fakies, did some very nice long (for me) straight balanced rollbacks & rollbacks into a smooth U-turn. Still struggling with trying to flick the front end round mehod. New for today was rolling up the mini 1/2 and trying to roll back up the other side and repeat. A few good attempts but nothing smooth & continous, yet. ;)
Did a few 1/2 180s, but wrists have been aching, so looking to work on my groundwork & flat a bit.
Can't wait for new bike, (shorter and lighter, hopefully much easier on the ramp).
I've got all this time on my hands cos I'm not working at the mo, & my ex has moved far, far away with my son meaning I get to spend much less time with him than I have had :(.
While I've got some time on my hands I'm determined to use it well. Park in the early morning, then job searching during the day.
-
:daumenhoch: gutted about yer job and yer lad being far from you , my daughter lives with her mam and i dont see her as often as i'd like, :(
i'm just back from ince park , had an hour or so there , clearing the jump box nice and smoothly now after a few dodgy moments, lots of scooter kids there , only two on bikes , one was very good, smooth and stylish , half-caste lad on a united , airing about 3 feet out of everything, he chatted to me for a bit about bikes b.i.t.d and how long i'd been back into it , and he seemed surprised when i said it was my first time at a skatepark for over 20 years, :2funny:
i couldnt master the jump box the other way though , off the bank and landing into the transition , harder to get the landing position angled in that way round, although i can clear it transition first smoothly landing nose in first , so i'm happy with the way its gone today , :4_17_5:
i overcame my embarassment and fear, learnt a move and didnt break myself or the bike.i think i was good entertainment for them all , being the only one there with brakes , a helmet , gloves :yahoo_silent:
hey mister , why isn't yer seat lower? ....because i'm old...... :daumenhoch:
-
clearing the little hip jump box thingy at Corby.....small things :daumenhoch:
Oh and the wall ride thingy at the end of the street section bit.......fook me i'll be sponsored next! ;D
-
Dave,
cheers. My ex was in Walsall (150 mile round trip), now in Cardiff (400). So fortnightly long weekends at mine will now be monthly or 3 weekly weekend stays in B&B's. Shite really, and very expensive with money I haven't got.
Ince is where I ride most days ;). Currently on a brown / black Freeagent HellCat, soon to be on a black / orange Eastern. Gis a shout if you fancy riding together anytime. I'm pretty basic at mo, but improving day by day.
Last week the kids were asking how long I'd been riding, there were surprised when I said 3 days. Ace that you've gone back to the skatepark. :daumenhoch:
-
I had a fairly big bail on Thursday so I had a little trundle on my missus’ bike yesterday in the woods to test my knee out. I attempted a tabletop and then turnbar, neither anything like dialled but I was grinning anyway just to be out there doing it.
-
saturday morning will be the next time i can get there mate, can meet you there once the sun comes up if it aint pissing it down :buck2:
have you been newton-le -willows park, thats good , similar to ince,
scratched my car getting bike out this morning ... :'( :'( :'( gutted .
-
I'm planning on going to Blackpool Friday night, so dunno about this Sat, will either be exhausted, broken or hyped up, early rising & desperate to ride some more...
I had a quick look at NLW, trying a sunrise special, but ramps were damp & slippy. Nice variety of ramps, looking forwards to trying again when it's properly dry.
I've been too Hesketh Flecther / Atherton too. Nice variety there, but a bit run down at mo. Will take a broom with me next time...
-
i was wanting to go blackpool too , but working till 7 on friday , couldnt get my shift covered friday but they could do today ?? :wtf:  :Aresehole: the may one is my next chance
-
I did a bunny hop over a can of coke.
-
i managed to jump a gap last week. i didnt ride when i was a kid but i am having fun now.
-
Went out for a ride with my lad today, while he was riding around on the flat, I found a nice concrete legde around a disused lorry park, flat onside, with rubble piled upto it the otherside, so spent a few hours jumping over that both ways, some nice jumps from flat over the ledge, trying to clear the gravel :LolLolLolLol:
-
Nice hour at Ince this afternoon.
Still rolling back, still not quite flicking front round. Had some nice back-to-back airs on the mini 1/2. Managed to properly clear the jump box.
Early morning session planned for tomo with Dave.
:)
-
:daumenhoch:
Was it quiet there today?
are we there tomorrow or do you wanna go somewhere else?
-
Was just me. :D
I'm up for it tomo, I should be there for 8 if it's dry.
:)

Had an ace 2 hours at Alexandra Park (Wigan) this aftie. First time there, really nice park, all metal and plenty of space and variety.
2 kids there who said they'd only been riding a year pulling 360s & 540s  Were very helpful & encouraging, and I can now drop in properly (new ride in, not old back wheel on coping which I could already do), and made some decent attempts at the hip jump. Ace!
Saw 3 excellent riders, going big & clean, landing pretty much everything, 180 whips, peg grabs, no handers, steep alley-oop hips & gaps, and a fly out off a low ramp, 6 ft gap over 4 ft metal fence. Wow!
-
Today's adventure took me to Victoria Park Warrington, what an ace park, & alone for 2 hrs.
I've never ridden in a proper bowl type park before so had a gentle start, just riding around and getting a feel for carving and the lines.
Nothing spectacular, mainly dropping in & flying out of everything except the tallest 1/4 section. A very nice start to the day, no crashes & I found £4. Result!
-
Two lucky dips for th'euro millions on? so are we at ally in wigan or vicci in wire on saturday morning then? (weather permitting)
-
My best trick today was jumping over a rail into a grassed bank, and covering myself and my bike in dog Shite :10_2_12: :tickedoff:
-

Last time I crashed properly I landed in the only pile of goose shit in the whole park. All the way down my sleeve. :yahoo_silent:
Today's adventure saw 2 hours on Mesnes Park, Newton-Le-Willows. Very nice park all metal, lots of space & variety. Had it to myself except for 2 lads who had a quick 10 mins on way to school.
Still working on getting over the coping, lots more dropins, including the 1/2 pipe.
Worked on kickturns too which I've hardly been trying so far, was mainly trying to overcome my coping phobia, but ended up getting nicely em balanced & very nearly up on the lips. :D
Edit:
Afternoon session, nearly 2 hours of practising endo - rollouts & 180 hops. Both are starting to happen :D Managed 2 clean rollouts one after another, then fell off and grazed my elbow next try. Really excited, feel it's started to come together, very happy with my progress after a few weeks. :)
-
:D :D :D
good session today !! 2 hour morning ride at alexandra park ,wigan ...daunting at first , but i got more and more into it once i'd warmed up a bit .
why is it that the mental side of riding is as tough as the actual riding itself ....i'm sure if i convinced myself i could do it a bit more then i probably would ??? :wtf:
sat at the top of the mini half pipe thinking " theres no way i'm dropping into that fooker" ..then when i did , i wondered what the hell i was fretting about ......
somebody pay my bills for me , then i might push my riding a bit more , and push the consequences of a crash to the back of my mind ...:daumenhoch:
-
:D :D :D

:daumenhoch:
Good mini sess at Ali with Dave & lovely Fi (GF) just an hour for me, before dropping her off at station. Found it hard to ride properly with Fi watching, knowing she'd run over screaming if I crashed :-*. Good to see Dave dropping in, not good to bail myself down the tallest 1/4 when my chain wheel snagged :-[. Know I've been down bigger at NWL & Viki.
Off out again to keep working on my rollbacks & 180 hops. :D
-
I bunnyhopped a flowerbed - like doing a gap but a softer landing if a bit short :D
-
why is it that the mental side of riding is as tough as the actual riding itself
It's all mental, the other bits like riding a bike
-
10 ft nose manual
And I've just had my wisdom teeth out
:)
-
Think I finally mastered fakies / rollbacks today. Didn't get to ride much last week cos of visting my son in Cardiff & a busy weekend. Went out this afternoon for a go on the closed off road near my house, was doing 8/10 cleanly, mainly back peddaling 2 or 3 times, sometimes just yanking it straight round. Yippee! :D
Then came home to fit new forks & wheel. 8)
::)
-
:D Good session in the sun at Ali Park today. Glad to get back on cos haven't have much time recently.
Dropping in both ways, getting ever closer to properly clearing the coping, dropping in the 1/2 half pipe - popping out the opposite side and dropping back in keeping feet on pedals. :LolLolLolLol:
My rollbacks are lot more consistent from an endo than down a ramp, but they're coming along. Some good 180 hops, but landing still instead of starting to rollback.
Still bottling dropping in the highest 1/4 when my chainwheel snags. :-[
No bad crashes, one handlebars to stomach incident popping out a 1/4 in my other direction, one bum on tyre 1/2 bail from a decent air attempt.
So, just baby basics, but a satisfying ride. ::)
-
Impressed with your riding and progression. :4_17_5:
I managed to walk up three flights of stairs without getting out of breath. REEE-SULLT ;D
-
i was at heywood yesterday and really wanted to get summat smooth on the step up double ,so got pick up to manuel to hop over so i can pump hard opn the backside and pulkled it mint first time was well impressed and pulled it 5 or 6 times .this was made much harder by a roller being 8 foot isdh away fromt he jump so made pick up before hard
-
:D This morning dropped in down the 5ft concrete 1/4s at Ince for the first time. Big mental block overcome (even though I'm sure some of the Vici Park one's were higher).
Got their early determined to drop in, only to find a little kid shredding, doing clean 1 handers over the hip, said he had only been riding 3 months
Soon as he left for school I padded up and got up and dropped in, then spent nearly an hour popping out and dropping in off every pipe in every direction, including out & in with no feet down, & got over chain wheel snagging phobia. So quite a big day for me.
Just some job applications to get out of the way, then I'll get out for an hour later working on rollbacks & 180 hops.
-
Nice progress Hellcat :daumenhoch:
I hadn't hit the park for a while, but today I had the chance, I managed to drop in on both 1/2 and 1/4 pipes, for the first time, not sure what was different, but I just done it without thinking, spent a while on 1/2 dropping in both ways and popping out, most times landing on my feet, but the odd one on pedals :4_17_5:
Bit of air over the boxes, maybe next time I'll try come air off the 1/2!!
Felt like good progress today as I been bottling the drop ins for too long.
-
rode after having widsom teeth out last night ... thanks to Codine & Monster :crazy2:
managed to 360 tyre tap over the jump box for the first time and footplanted over the doorway at TRM1
-
Had an ace long weekend away (bikeless).
Haven't had much chance to ride the past few weeks, due to time away + building & rebuilding my cheapo remix.
Most recent progress includes started trying to 180 flyout, and been doing 90s out then dropping back in with varying tidiness.
Looking forward to a few days of riding consistently as I haven't really been out yet since switching to 25/9.
:daumenhoch: Sink at dropping in! I loved that 'Is that it?' feeling when I finally took the plunge. ::)

It's very much a mind game, I really was surprised as to once it was done, how easy it was just to ride up and drop in, I had another bash this morning, just to make sure it wern't a fluke :LolLolLolLol:
The higher of the 1/4's is still giving me trouble, but the smaller one and 1/2 pipe will soon get my confidence up to do it..
-
rode on saturday and monday night. getting used to a new frame, skinnier tyres etc so bike is different from the dolomites i've been riding since 2006.
nearly landed a few double decades- very different on the new skool odyssey waltz frame as its lot lower so when you land and switch feet again for the next decade
jump around it makes a lot of difference. relearnt the backwards framestand with foot on the grip for first time in years as with the new shorter but slightly
raised stem i can finally get my foot under the stem a little.

still riding as often as time permits at nearly 41.

Shame we didn't meet up Saturday. Everytime me & my son see a skatepark it's always "Lets see if they're doing any tricks." Most of the time they ain't & I have to tell him "They're just practising"... ;)
He would've loved seeing those. :D

Read or saw somewhere about being able to ride up it before you can drop in it. & I try something new, whether riding up a different ramp or dropping in off something bigger each time I ride a certain park.
I find variety of ramps helps, keep trying stuff from different angles on different ramps. Lucky for me there's a few good parks within a 5 mile drive. :)

I can ride up the taller 1/4. But when I try dropping in the bottle goes!! I'll keep at it and no doubt it will happen, before I know it I'll be wondering what the worry was all about :daumenhoch:
-
Spent a few hours in the park yesterday morning, just a gentle ride, spent some time trying to fakie off the 1/4, I'm hitting 3 cranks and getting half way out of the roll out, so some progress had there, I couldn't even crank half a pedal before :LolLolLolLol:
On the way home I stopped at a small wall and spent couple of hours trying to wall ride that, I hit some sweet rides not very high but i rode them out and landed. One very sweet one I manuled out of the wall to flat which felt goooooooooood :daumenhoch: Landed on my ass a couple of times, but it's all good. This is now going to be part of my daily "On the way home from work" ride.
-
boardroom friday so not realy today, but learnt desasters on the mid size half pipe small insignificant trick but made me grinn :daumenhoch: small steps at first .
-
Had 1st ride in a few weeks today, following illness, and medication and general lethargy.
Straight to Ince Park, for some 5ft concrete. Just happy to get out again and not having forgotten everything. :D
Fly outs & drop ins, disasters on mini-box, 180s on flat now very nearly rolling out. Rollbacks off ramps pulled 3 in a row, but still not everytime...Grr!
-
been riding for 30 years, mostly mini ramp or street now but i've always dabbled with flatland. bought a quamen delta 2 flatland bike about 7-8 months ago and been trying to learn things without using my brakes although i still have them fitted. i can now do hang 5s about 20 ft and tonight i done my first rolling whiplash without touching my brake. well chuffed. :)

a recent pic from the local paper in newport - the argus- from a demo i did at the big splash weekender festival. the other new skool rider who rode flat with me said this had the biggest reaction from the crowd all day. ha. old school rules!!
:LolLolLolLol:

Loving the face shots denny, glad i'm not the only one to pull the cum face :LolLolLolLol:
I tried hang 5 today, failed and can tell you, plastic pedals on bare ankles or no better than metal :crazy2:
-
I love this thread, it has inspired me to get back down the skateparks at the tender age of 29. Im not expecting to go mad just have a bit of fun again. Like the early morning idea, ill be back in the skateparks in and around southampton soon.

:4_17_5:
Lovin the Powermower and the handplant kickturns !! :4_17_5:  i used to love to pull them b.i.t.d on my "trick ramp" .....i ran a coaster then , which probably helped . ::)
had a good early morning ride today at Cadishead with Hellcat Dan, airing just out the coping on the halfpipe ( so Dan said , it didnt feel like it to me ) some nice air over the hips ( out of the low bit hehe) and a few attempts at miami hoppers onto the flat of the halfpipe, its about ten inches up from the floor , so its cheating a bit. Miami Cheaters we'll call them :daumenhoch: got right over onto the bar end , almost held it for a second or two before pulling back and dropping back in , it was easier with a 3 foot long seatpost and a seat with a pokey-out bit ....

had a good early morning ride today at Cadishead with Hellcat Dan, airing just out the coping on the halfpipe ( so Dan said , it didnt feel like it to me ) some nice air over the hips ( out of the low bit hehe) and a few attempts at miami hoppers onto the flat of the halfpipe, its about ten inches up from the floor , so its cheating a bit. Miami Cheaters we'll call them :daumenhoch: got right over onto the bar end , almost held it for a second or two before pulling back and dropping back in , it was easier with a 3 foot long seatpost and a seat with a pokey-out bit ....

:4_17_5: Freekin ace session today. Nearly 3 hours. Pics to follow of Dave's Miami Cheaters. I was happy to get a bit nearer the coping on airs, and the odd clean fakie, not ridden too much past few weeks. One nice 'slow motion' crash that I could feel coming so managed to flop safely without panicking.
2 Milf groupies watching too. :D One was pretty fit tbh.

I'm 41 and still riding mate. Its a mere number.

We had a day and a half at Hairy Bobs in Scarborough as part of our holiday - I rolled in properly for the first time and also dropped in for the first time (by rolling along the top of the coping and sort of manualling in). My eldest lad (9) was flying, cleared the big box and was carving well fast round the bowls, all on his race bike
-
My wish list is the witchcraft hang 5 and to complete a frame whip.
-
Despite how rubbish I am, I still have a good go at it and on saturday at our private hire at Sheffield On-Board I practiced at dropping into the vert end of the bowl and got it dialled by the end of the night :coolsmiley:
Just gotta work on getting back out again with a bit more style than a wounded gazelle... good grief, I dragged my bike over the coping more than I rode it :LolLolLolLol:

had a go of the airbag today, bit like jumping into a foampit. got backflips pretty wired, 360 tailwhip with 1 foot on the frame landing, and tried a 360 flip, got it all the way round but landed on my side a bit. it felt fookin excellent.

Awesome pics mate, and killing it at 41. Nice one :)

Did my first proper aerial today, ie actually got above the coping. QP was about 5 foot. Not that impressive but I'm happy if I'm improving with my riding at almost 40 :daumenhoch:

I jumped off a picnic bench last night at The Boardroom. Got on and eyed it up then bottled it. Then Nosepickben made it look easy so got back up and did it.. :)
Did this last week too

Took about an hour and loads of bitch runs, One failed attempt where I caught my back wheel. Click the pic to watch.

Yep the park bench was a hoot last night. stepped of the top of it but Ben, George and Gary made it look easy.
Must admit when I was on top of the bench it looked further to the ground than it actually was when I jumped off it!
