I know what a freecoaster does, but was wondering what it does if you pedal backwards while moving forwards?
I always used to ride a coaster brake, is it the same as that? ie the pedals stop rather than rotate backwards? :-\

pedal backwards as much as you like .no brake attached like the old school coaster brake.shoes removed.

i will have a route around mate.i have loads of freecoasters here ,i use the suntour guts in my si freecoasters.

Basically as dan said above nothing will happen. If you roll backwards say down a ramp from a fakie. You would have had to pedal backwards as you rolled. This became a bit of a problem for flatland riders as when they were performing rolling tricks when rolling backwards they would have to keep rolling until the cranks were in the position they wanted them to be to remount them. With a free coaster your cranks will stay still so you can get used to remounting them in the same position Everytime. As they are not spinning round. :daumenhoch:

so they just spin backwards like a normal freewheel when going forwards?
Do they weigh a ton like coasters do?

my new one is lighter than a profile cassette hub.

yes they do spin backwards but have a little drag ,they wont lock up unless you go backwards,its a art and will spit you off
if your not paying attention.

Yes and no. It will just spin like a freewheel when going forwards. But will also spin when rolling backwards. Where a freewheel won't.
A freewheel will turn your cranks. So if you push your freewheel bike forwards when your standing next to it the cranks won't turn. But if you push it backwards they will start to turn. If you do the same with a bike with a freecoaster the cranks will stay still in both directions. I hope this isn't to confusing. :daumenhoch:
They are a bit heavier than normal hubs. This reminds me I need to dig out some of my 48 hole nakai's and sell them on. :)

cheers lads, that clears it all up! only started using a freewheel since i've got my new bike, i don't do any serious riding, but was thinking about trying one if spot one cheap enough! :daumenhoch:

Can you get freecoasters for skyways? (sorry if this is a stupid question!)

yes,you need to remove the brake shoes,then space the axle with washers to take up the slack!unbrake mod )
youll still need to attach the coaster arm to the frame.

Sorry I meant instead of a freewheel. I've just looked for freecoasters on eBay and it looks like its not what I thought it was. :-[

you either have a freewheel or a coaster brake hub,you can convert the coaster brake hub to a freecoaster ,thats your choices.
