Title: From Wales
Post by: karim on April 20, 2012, 10:43 PM
Hello all,

Great forum, had some great memories stirred by reading through.

Spent the 80's on BMX, freestyling on 'rustic' quarterpipes and ramps that we got permission to locate in our village school yard. Riding 15 miles on a Sunday (no easy job on a BMX) to race at the nearest track. Happy days.

Owned and broke:
Aero Stratton (can't have been many of those) - bent and twisted!
Night burner
Ultra burner
GL DP freestyler

Now my sons have the dubious pleasure of my past, middle boy just grown out of his Raleigh team mini burner (restored skip find). His mates never gave it a second glance, his mates dads drooled.

I will post some pics shortly.

Thanks for the welcomes  :). I am from mid-wales, grew up near Llanidloes. Will put some pics up shortly, may be able to find a couple from way back then to scan in if I can come to terms with the embarassment.

Have you got a bike built up at the min? There is a ride next week in Hereford, that's not too far from you, will give you a good oppertunity to meet some members and have a good ride out. :coolsmiley: :daumenhoch:

It also needs some work, time permitting.

Also have this that I built up for my son, am most likely going to sell the DP to fund a full size BMX for him (project for me ;) ) in the future.

Do not sell the DP you will regret it forever! Drop the seat post before you knacker the seat tube aswell! Plenty of cheap frames for a project to be had on here or the evilbay. :daumenhoch:

It will be traumatic but I will probably start off with a trial separation! I don't know if I could bear to see my old prized possession getting trashed by my son as I abused it in my day.

The seat post is fine, been there for about 30 years. Super long Rickman post sits well down into the tube, obviously built to last as we did total lesser frames BITD. It was at a height that allowed me to hold the bars against the end of the seat, also at 6'2" I need to squeeze my legs in somehow.

I've pm'd you Karim about your DP, if you really want to sell, i'll take it off your hands and keep it in Wales, it's birthplace. :daumenhoch:

The firebird is the Glyn Lewis edition frame and forks, with skyway tuff 2's, Rickman freestyle bars and seatpost, dia-compe calipers, levers and seat-clamp. Other bits tuff-neck sprocket, torker seat, takagi crank and SR stem, all bits are as were on it years ago.
The mini-burner is a skip find I resprayed, new decals it does have non original seat and brakes but all good otherwise. My son loves it and keeps telling me that he will give it to his son!
