carrying on my "what new school parts series" what stems are we using or would like ?
-
Pick something you like Paul........stems are a bit personal i guess. colony ones are nice and animal.......S&M
-
:) Lots to choose from, depends if you want a top, front loader or something with a bit of rise to give your bars a bit more height.Length is also worth considering. Can`t go wrong with S&M,FBM,Deluxe,Odyssey.I`ve seeen several Proper stems crack especially the top load ones.
-
i have a few different ones
demolition .front load.nice light weight solid stem .nothing moves and the bolts are hollow .
s&M xlt cant beat em light and solid
macneil frotn load .not ightest but again solid and nothing moves.
stems are all good as above choose what ya like look of etc not many will be bad

i have a odyssey cfl at the minute gonna try that first to see if it suits but no harm in gathering peoples opinions if it helps others too ,especially if say someone was going to spend £60 of their hard earned dosh and then find out that they shouldn't of bought it as they break real easy :daumenhoch: but do like the s&m redneck :smitten: I also liked the Odyssey Elementary stem until i found out that there has been a few people nearly killed themselves where they have basically fell apart as they have landed

been using the odyssey elementary for a few years now and never had a problem with it, i've never heard any of the stories about them falling apart when landing though.

I wonder how the orange steerer clamp locates in the the main silver part of the stem?
I like the orange and silver colour combo.
I use an S&M Red Neck XLT on my Failure.

I use one of these, no problems so far on a lightly used race bike.
Got a mint condition blue 53mm if you're interested. ;)

I have one of these, used it for a couple of months, felt a bit flexi, but never moved, works on a friction fit between the stem and clamp(orange bit), hence the flex I think. You have to have full engagement of steerer into the stem, so there isn't much room for adjustability. I bought it because it was cheap, and its cheap for a reason, which is adjustability, there isn't much.
Its going on my daughters new build in the next fortnight, it's plenty good for the money, but won't suit every build.
