Title: Would you give it all up for one ?
Post by: BENDYCAT ELEVENTEEN on May 17, 2012, 10:49 AM
Is there one bike that you would give up you collection to own ?

Rules:
no one else would have it - you would be the only one and no others around
you have to give up your complete bikes (no you not allowed to take apart your ride to say they are bit)
doesn't matter if it's your only bmx or you have 12+ ~ they all go

so is there a bike that you would tear some one's arm off for ~ but have only that one ride ?

for some of you it will be yes and maybe for a lot it would be no

back in the day most of us only had one bike to ride ~ but nowadays are we greedy to have loads ~ do we see it as a right to own more than just one bike - do you feel that if you find them cheap enough that you can feel alright to own more ? is it that now you have more money that you feel that you can buy more ?

so as we are here today, does it matter how many you own ? back in the day as a kid you may have seen a BMX that would have given every thing up for just to own ?

so does it still that feeling still count today ? or are you not bothered about having you top bike and just like having loads of bmx's ?

so what is your answer ? you can also say what you feel about it now to what you would have though back in the day !

cheers B  ;)

I just have done it.. Sold both my DeCoster and Slingshot to build 2 of my dream bikes... a 1979/80 Cook Bros and a 1976 R&R CR-1.

Never. If it was that rare I probably wouldn't want to ride it. Where's the fun in that? I've ridden every bike I've ever owned and that's the way it will always be. I'd rather have an OS daily rider and a small OS collection that I can ride every now and then.

No way  :yahoo_silent: It's taken me well over 10 years to get what I have right now including the bikes I've shown on here plus loads more completes, frame sets and boxes full of parts. Theres no bike worth changing all that for not even the STR-1 prototype. ^"^

Agree, not even for the STR-1

Tbh i have owned more or less all the bikes i have wanted..

Wouldn't mind a DG Cruiser or Nomura 24/26..., but not really that fussed about bikes these days

Nope. I buy and sell my collection every couple of years and have a really old '78 Team Goose and a really new one finally in my Knightbikes RetroGoose which is about as rare as anything else on here.

Was thinking of selling my MRD's a while ago but really love them so I doubt they'll go as I can't think of a bike I want that I haven't already owned at one point over the last 13yrs since I got back into BMX......

When I was a kid I had a Super Burner and although I loved it, I longed for some of the better bikes. Now I can afford it I want to own all the bikes I wanted but could never have as a kid and more. Greedy? No.
I really want a JMC Andy Patterson and a VDC Gorilla both with correct bars. I already have my grail, my Hutch 'Woody' Trickstar but even if I didn't I would swap my entire collection for one bike.

1976 R&R CR-1.

Good shout Sean, another beauty I'd love from the year I was born. :smitten:

Nope, not a chance.

But......

Like Sean above, I've just split an 84 SE Quadangle and an 83 Mongoose to finish off 1 build which only 1 or 2 people have seen ( Ash is 1 above) and to have the funds ready for the next one which is an 83 Profile Champ Pro.  :smitten:

Other than the 2 above, my longed holy grails were A Rickman and an MRD. I can end this hobby knowing i have 4 of the bikes i've always wanted, well 5 really as i have 2 Rickmans.

I have indeed had the privilege to see the bike and if I said its seriously amazing I'd be underestimating it  :4_17_5:

Some great answers  :daumenhoch:

and good to see a good mix or yes and No's

keep em coming

no one has said that they don't have a Grail bmx that they would give it all up for

I don't have a grail as i have seen loads of bmx's that i would love to own,  price's at the mo for the top rides, are mostly out of my range and i have to wait for things to turn up in a cheaper way  ::)

but it's nice to not know what will turn up
I could do a list of ride that i could love - but the ride at the mo i have are cool for me

cheers B  ;)

Mmm. Just read the replies and maybe my original Mongoose Cali with my postcode on the BB as well might prise one of my MRD's away....... Bit not my Knightgoose.......

They do turn up - my brother's labourer turned up PeterJ's original Ammaco at a car boot sale and he now has that tucked safely back in his flock so it could happen guys......

I wouldnt give up mine for 1 special 1 or the "holy grail", im not into the "grail" thing.. its a bit weird if you ask me, because once youve got it another becomes your "grail" and then another and another, so your original "grail " isnt really your "grail" ???
I dont think its greedy having a large collection... its just something to do and enjoy

Good post!   :daumenhoch:  Bitd I always coveted my friend's Skyway TA, but your tastes change as you get older and now a TA doesn't really do it for me, plus nowadays I see so many great-looking bikes on here and the Museum, that it'd be hard to pick just one.  That said, as I now live in Japan, I might give it all up for a decent Laserlite, though I only have 2 bikes (a Trident and a Haro Gp 1) to give up so that wouldn't be a hard decision.   :)

I'd sell parts of my collection to fund new ones but I'd never sell the lot for just one bike. I only collect bikes that have had an impact on me as a rider over the years, and I've been riding for far too long for one bike to ever sum up BMX for me. So there would always need to be a few of them in the stable.

I have ridden every bike I have ever owned no matter how rare, you can actually ride these bikes you know, they were kind of made for it.

Actually, I still don't think I'd give it all up for one, but I'd probably sell up to get a anniversary condor frame in blue, and then have just one old bike too

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't be able to ride it how I wanted to. Don't want to ride so carefully that its no fun.
