Title: Rawed bikes?
Post by: Hellcat on May 24, 2012, 08:25 PM
Noob question, please excuse / ignore as you will... :D

I've seen F&F's being sold raw, is the idea to keep em raw or is it for custom paint jobs?

I think they look pretty good raw, so next question is, can you ride em raw or do you need to do summat to keep em looking nice? Is it just a case of blasting to get em raw?

I'm currently riding a scraped up black frame with 'metallic red' bars & forks (not my 1st colour choice but was cheap & rides nice). Thinking of a paint job eventually, but thinking raw maybe nice too. ::)

The idea is to keep em raw

Factory raw frames are coated in lacquer to keep rust at bay, the finish isn't very durable and rust soon creeps in under the lacquer

If you just strip paint off it will rust.... quick, as demonstrated ere

Brand spankers factory raw...

Same frame a year later, rust creeping in....

So i stripped the lacquer and polished it, couldn't be arsed to re lacquer it so i just built it back up....

It got rained on a couple of times...

i raw'ed my mirraco rider bike.
it was a horrible brown colour.
stripped it and rubbed it up a bit with sand paper to make a nice pattern lol.
3 coats of halfords lacquer and job done.
i like to see em done like it.

I'm going to raw my s&m soon. But I'm going to use gun oil on mine to keep the rust at bay as you can't scratch off a coat of oil

My old Proper Proclaimer was the nicest Raw frame i've ever seen, great clear coat as well as the rust really didn't get going at all on it
