I've found about 6 mins of footage taken by my late Dad of my first visit to Gillingham skatepark circa 1982-3. Although I'm on a Mag Burner (pre my white PK Ripper with white z-rims), there is some great footage of Glyn Lewis on his burnished PK Ripper in the blue bowl and resi bowl (with usual stroppiness on display: listen for the "Oi...hang on!") plus lots of other local boys including Simon on a red Torker and a guy we called Mongoose who always rode in white race gear. The first clip is in colour, with sound, although as Dad's camcorder was new (IIRC it had a separate video recorder that he carried around on a shoulder strap!!), you'll have to put up with the first 30 secs of him arguing with mum about whether it's working or not, bless him!! ;D . The second is older and short, probably from 1982 and is recorded on cine-film and therefore has no sound. I've recorded these off the original Hi 8 tape and will find a way of uploading to the site, if anyone is interested? Let me know?
Both clips now on You Tube! :daumenhoch: Hope this brings back memories for anyone who rode there in the early 80s. I loved it there, especially when I traded the Burner for my white PK with white Z-rims...never managed to match the feeling when I rocked up at the park on my new Ripper!
Here's the links to both videos:

Let me know if you recognise anyone?

Really cool footage Tom - how's that for nostalgia? :) must be nice having that as a memento - shot by your Dad. Love how the later footage cuts off to a garden party at the very end ;D
Cheers for posting :daumenhoch:

Glad you liked the vids guys...especially Mum's garden party at our house in Chatham! Given that it's 1983 we can safely assume the menu included pasta salad served in tupperware containers or Shippams chicken paste sandwiches! I'm hoping people will recognise themselves or old mates in the vids: I recognise Glyn (obviously), Simon (Gill Boy from here) and a guy we just used to call "Mongoose" because of his white Mongoose race gear and supergoose. Those were happy days...the start of freestyle, when white bikes had just taken over from chrome frames as the coolest, and the soundtrack album was Streetsounds Electro 4! Cheers, Tom

Thanks mate, ill take a look when im home after work tonight.
This was a little before my time. My era was around "85 to "88, just before it got bulldozed. When I first pitched up there it was 50p per day then towards the end of it (the skatepark that is) we used to chuck our bikes over the fence and dig the gravel out of the bowls then ride for free.
Cheers!
