Title: Mel Stoutsenberger Replica
Post by: reilley1 on May 28, 2012, 05:01 AM
You guys might be familiar with Mr Mel Stoutsenberger.  Great racer, Rick's Bike Shop alumni and amazing photographer.

Mel was using a modified girls Schwinn back in 74.  (Here's  an original picture taken around that time)

A little while ago I started this bike.  It took awhile to finish but recently I finally found the "correct" Atom hub and 80 gauge drilled Araya rim.   Here's is the finished product.  (Sorta)

Great stuff :daumenhoch: Nice touch with that period Castrol decal. From the looks of the riders in the background you can tell he had the style to turn heads. Thanks for posting.

Good eye on the decal HD.

Won an original Torco sticker on e-bay recently.  Along with putting a bend on the seatpost, it should be the final touch.

Thanks for the comments

These builds of yours Reilly are amazing :daumenhoch: some of the bikes I have not heared of but they are way cool,it poses the question? are you permantley scouting for these bikes/parts etc or are they that readily available in the states? over here if something rare or desireable comes up its either a lucky find? or goes on ebay and gets bid up to a ridiculous price?  there also seems to be a lot less available in this country unfortunately :-\
