It's just been powdercoated so don't want to damage it

Do this.

Make sure they are level then wack em in.
Most steel cups are harder than tarzan's feet so they will take a good beating.

Remove any powdercoat that is inside the tubes though!

Or you can gay about with fitting kits.

Do it late at night too - the neighbours will love it.

Yeh if there is powder inside the headtube it makes the job much harder!

It doesn't exactly fall off either.  Good luck!

I'm with the Ruler on this, but here's a little more detail;

You need another pair of hands, especially if you're doing this for the first time, two lumps of 4x2 wood or similar, a drop of oil or grease and a hammer.

Right, headset first;

A good powdercoater won't have done the inside of your headtube but if he has, you MUST clean the area up completely first, then rub a lttle oil or grease areound where the cup is going to sit. Then get your other pair of hands to hold the frame so you can position a cup nice and level ready to be whacked in. The headtube must rest on one of your lumps of wood, then you place the other lump of wood on top of your nicely positioned cup and give it a whack. Don't be surprised if it takes a few goes, or that you're hitting it harder than you think you should.

To summerise, Clean & lube the headtube, set the work up in this order = wood/frame/cup/wood/hammer.  Give it a good lump with your hammer. Good luck!

Now, Bottom Bracket;

Exactly the same as the headset  :)

Enjoy.

As said, a decent powder coaters should've known to blank out the BB shell and head tube.  School boy error on their part.  It's a fair bet they've powdered your BB as well?  If so its a right pain in the arse to get all that out without taking some off the outside  ???

That's a job for a dremel or a small drill attachment of some sort. Ballache.
