Title: New project- Standard shorty custom
Post by: lk_97 on June 07, 2012, 09:46 PM
Scored this on eBay- massive thanks to Jaymz for letting me know :daumenhoch:

Got it and it was missing a wheel, and needed a serious clean up, cleaned it up a bit, but tomorrow I'm gonna try and get some nitromors and get the chrome visible as the bits I can see look lovely. Then just gonna get some odi toadstools and a rear 990, and recoat the seat and it's finished. Although I might need to sell it as I want to get an iPad :-\

Here are the pics anyway

What pegs are these?

(http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3083/dscf0816g.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/215/dscf0816g.jpg/)

What bars and stem are these too? Has a cool original s&m sticker on the bars though :daumenhoch:

odyssey gyro and better pic of the bars and stem

How much would I get if I was to sell this though?

Thanks, Lucas. :daumenhoch:

You got it then Lucas - you're right as well I do like it  :daumenhoch: , it's a corker. Custom ad lugs - nice :)

They look like S&M Castillo bars, looking at the forks, they are either KHE or Dragonfly's I think. Can you measure the steerer on the forks fella? If it's not 1 1/8" then they might be wierd KHE forks/stem combo.

Nearly forgot - the pegs look like Hoffman Hardy pegs, although there were a load of generic copies of em in the late 90's.

Eaaand I think that's a sealed Joytech rear hub?

S&M did 4 piece bars, Think they were Castillo bars or something, I could be confused. Is that a 10mm hub on the rear, Looks like a race wheel, Radial laced on one side and cross laced on drive side :daumenhoch:

Yeah it has a mint sugino cr-mo crank on it too which was pretty good :daumenhoch: yeah I don't think that it is 1 1/8", I had my doubts too, I'll measure it tomorrow when I do the rest of the work on it :daumenhoch:

And the hub is sovos or something? :) will be sad to see it go as I might have to get rid of it when it's done :(

Whats the serial number on the frame Lucas? It's on the bottom bracket.

There should be a letter = month (ie a= January, b=february etc), then 5 numbers - the first two = the year

That's not a Standard serial number fella - you sure?

I wonder.....the seatstays/seattube junction screams Standard, that serial though looks more like a Dragonfly/Heavytools (although the seatstay/seattube junctions different to yours).....

I'll have a better look in the morning as it has paint on the serial number and my hallway is really dark :)

Yeah deffo still a nice bike :) Coaster-wise Gary you're right, but a load of peeps ground the feckers off in the late 90's. Platform is a tad short n'all :)

Think Danny's got it spot on - another giveaway is the bridge between the seatstays - it's a small guage tube than the stays, I think Standards use the same guage tube. Looking at that serial, poss from 1996? Still a nice frame, would make a belting flatland/mini bike :)

cyclesports of grantham got in the crapper btd for putting standard shorty decals on the copies..tut tut
not saying it is but a few issues from the pictures plus the coaster tab ,seat stay, serial, plus the parts on it arnt what you would put on a £400+ frame.

Here we go - nice stuff - full 4130, and you don't see too many of em around now - when I saw the old auction thought it was a Standard (although the pic was a bit sh1t  ;D )

Taken from Ride Dec-Jan 96/97:

And a couple of months later they ran a comp to win one:

I like it anyway and I think I'm gonna get rid of my haro sport so I'll probably just keep this for a bit :daumenhoch:

Unless someone wants a trade for a wal or early s&m ;)

Yeah - same company Jaymz - just a real early one of theirs. Bugger me though - looked like a Shorty in the auction :)

the frame has very little value but the frames are bloody well made for what they are.

Indeed, both you and I were convinced. So its a dragonfly of the same origin, I might need it to go with my other two

I'm gonna get the paint off to see the chrome and then might get rid if you're interested :daumenhoch:
