Title: star fangled nut
Post by: Glen on June 12, 2012, 07:26 PM
Do these things just push into the steerer tube and sit above the welded in compression nut?   Or do you use one if there is no welded compression nut?

You might be able to push it all the way through, Or get a bolt in it and a claw hammer, Use something to protect the top of the forks.

I normally use a big screwdriver and hit the flanges with a hammer.  breaks the individual flanges and it loosens up so it can come out.

Cant do that as its above where the welded nut should be.  Ill sort it out tomorrow, they're drying in the garage at the moment.  I expect the welded nut is fooked as a star needed to be used
Could be they were too tight to buy the top cap and a star washer is about a quid. Most top caps are ally and I would expect a top cap to loose out against a set of chromoly forks.

star nuts are shite, to get it out just drill through the center and the rest of if should pretty much fall apart. Hope head doctors are a thousand times better alternative if you're using forks with no welded nut.
