That looks amazing not a mark on it/Box fresh
Did you get it in that condition ?
-
yep that would have been an xmas prezzie for many a kid 35 years ago ..... BUT not for u Spen legs you would have just about managed to ride a boxer or a budgie :LolLolLolLol:
-
I know were there's two Grifters,a red and a blue model ::)
They are a great bike, few decent ones on eBay :).
Carls going to on one before weekend I can see it :)
KXFi 450 ready for weekend buddy were we riding, make sure u turn the rubber mudguard up to the tyre ... :daumenhoch:
-
:daumenhoch: Belter! Our kid had a grifter and I had a Strika with a coaster brake in about 80 - 81ish. If I had the room and the money I'd get one.
-
Cool... My brother is restoring one at the mo. I was too small for one so I had a Raleigh boxer...
-
Love it, fantastic resto/build :4_17_5:
Been looking a getting one of these myself.

the dreaded sturmey archer 2nd gear = neutral
bad news on my old mk1 chopper as the gear knob was missing, leaving a vicious bare metal spike pointing at your genitals (I wonder why the re-issue choppers changed to twist-grip..?)
I always wanted a grifter like my mate anthony, but ended up getting another second hand chopper
nice bike - looks mint :daumenhoch:
-
Ya need to get the front forks straightened in a vice then it will look like one of them BMX bike thingys :LolLolLolLol:
-
This is lovely, mintest one I've seen.. Had a blue mk2 bitd.. Bee thinking about a build for years.
-
Bloody hell, my xmas pressie many moons ago! :daumenhoch:
-
really nice christian like all your stuff you know what to get and that has to be one of the best grifters out there looks like its out of the box, :smitten:, heavy as f00k as i remember , with the bottom tubes i reckon that where voris dixon got his inspiration for the vdc freestyler ;D
-

Truly beautiful, would love a red mk1. Pukka bike buddy
-
that was the first bike i took to rom skatepark before i got my mongoose and the rest they say
is history :) great build :daumenhoch:
-
Glad to see so many like these as much as I do :smitten:. I got one for my first bike in Christmas 1979, but was a blue mk1 like this
I was over the moon to find this mega mega early Grifter a couple of years ago from a great bloke on a Grifter forum called Lee Warburton . He was a great help later to help me source neccesary parts to complete it.as a complete survivor build . Never planned it to be a resto
But then I sold it to Sam last year who stripped it to nut and bolts :), re painted the f&f and bars and rechromed the rims sourced the NOS tyres but then sadly lost interest .
I told him if he ever came to sell it on again I wanted first refusal .
I wasn't expecting getting it back in 3 boxes of bits :D
I then sourced the correct stamped 1976 rear hub, NOS cables, pedals ,chain guard , spoke protector ,R nuts and other various clips and ancillaries from Lee and Wayne , Diggler did the wheel build , I polished the remaining bits and built it back up .
Ready to go out on the fields with a football card on the spokes and ride some the mud humps :D
Happy days :)
It's a humble build , no big budget , and still puts a big smile on my face .
-
That is spot on, loving the colour, takes me back to times when I didn't have a worry in the world apart from cleaning dog shite out of the soles of my monkey boots :4_17_5:
-
Mint :4_17_5:
-
That's the baby.. Remember seeing it in the living room next to the Christmas tree. My sister was well pissed off with her fold up shopping bike.. That is mint :smitten:
-
super clean there >:D

;)
if i ever do another it will be a red one chris....
when restorations drag on as yours did, i always lose interest. god knows how you managed to put it all back together, and thread that rear cable through.... ;D
-
Looks mint mate ;)
-
Cracking job, as already mentioned, that looks like it came out of the box.
I got a Grifter for Christmas back in 78 or 79, exactly the same as that one and my best mate of the time got a red one. We used to play CHiPs on them :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
I have loads of fond memories on my old grifter, i even passed my cycling proficiency test on mine
-
Horrible.... ;)
-
That is sweet Christian, very nice :smitten: :smitten:
-
Brilliant Christian :4_17_5:
I had a silver one, would love to get one of them.
-
Awesome job Christian :daumenhoch:
All you need to do now is get the foundations in to stand it on.
;D ;)
-
when you had put the last piece back on, did you have to wash your hands 6 times with each of the 3 bars of soap you use and dry them 9 times with 9 different, fresh towels and then walk backwards out of the bathroom, re-tracing every step perfectly to avoid having to start again at the sink...only to realise that the handle is dirty from when you entered the room and therefore you have to start again anyway?
Lovely bike and a 1st class resto, I remember riding it on the vert at Blackpool when it were a survivor ;D
