Title: got me wondering, collectors who stay anonymous.
Post by: harris on June 22, 2012, 09:56 PM
I recently sold 20 sets of nos superpros to a collector who never shows his rides.
never shown anyone apparently,i still cant work out why.
i bet the biggest collections are kept quiet just personally cant work that part out.
odd in my book.

i can imagine nick a few big collections that would amaze all of us.

i kinda had my arm twisted glen, this chap had money to burn readily and the offer was an easy one.
i dont think i would have got anywhere near his offer from anyone tbh.

I have a good friend who has a massive and amazing collection including a lot of very exotic bikes, he collects for his pleasure and not for anyone else so thats his choice. I also know a few people who collect vintage bikes and cars which are stored away and not for public viewing. Each to their own I guess  :) I only post on here a small part of my collection and items I've collected, don't want everyone to know everything I have  :-X ;D

dan i've said this before, one collector i must have painted 30 + frame sets, he's not a member on rad

or any other site and my latest collector must have had 10 so far done by me and again no member of

any site, he told me he has a barn with them hanging aganst the wall and loads of parts in display

cabinets ;)

I guess to that as its only Rad and Beards site that have a UK show ie MK and Burner Bash, we miss a trick in seeing collections, and also collections in full.

Suppose we had an event where collectors brought all their bikes, then that would be a show piece eh !

Thinking of an 'inside job' next year, bit like the old DC event, maybe in an old warehouse / aircraft hanger........

Get a few bikes shown....... Gotta do something instead of MK

Same in the antiquities/art collectors world - there's them that get enjoyment out of showing their collections (museum loan exhibits etc), and them that get their enjoyment out of having their own private collections :) Same as Dan though - would love to see the private un's.

Is that not John from Birmingham? He has shared his collection with us, I have seen it in the flesh even swapped JMC frame sets with him so he could complete his collection.

One of my customers on my Post round has an awsome collection of bikes  :4_17_5: :4_17_5:.

Mostly Haro freestylers and GT Performers but he has 2 of those Hoffman Evel Knievel things in white. I think Dom knows him as he's in Southampton. He's also a good buyer from me  :LolLolLolLol: seems pointless putting my stuff on Rad when Steve want's it all, saves postage anyhow. He recently bought my Quad and a set of Anlun pro bars off of me for one of his Haro builds.

Those Knievel things are well cool though  :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

I don't show some of my bikes on RAD, 2 of them have never been shown.  :yahoo_silent:

I had a friend come up to me says a guy on his building site is selling some of his bmx's am i interested, turns out the guy was flogging off some tsaty bits, and framesets, Hutch, speedlines, DC's loads of stuff, he'd not heard of rad or any of the other likely forums. I got priced out of the buying, but hooked up a fellow member with the goodies

I also know of 1 Radster who posts on here regularly , he has been given a hard time in the past for his sales thread and has recently built 2 X High top end fantastic bikes  :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5:

He has hardly ever shown any of his stuff on here, it's not just the 70+ fully built bikes he has, it's his endless stock of NOS parts aswell.  :smitten: :smitten:  But then, for the shit he has taken in the past  ( not recently) i wouldn't give anyone the pleasure neither.

let every one enjoy the view  ???

don't know why they just show pic's of the stuff for people/members who enjoy BMX - doesn't mean we are going to badger them every second or find out where there live

for me having some nice bmx and just put it away in the loft for no one to see or just to be forgotten is such a shame

pictures of great items need to be seen  ;)

I can understand why people wouldn't want to show all of their collection. I dont go out of my way to put every bike or part I own online, however if a topic comes up relating to such a bike Im happy to share mine with other enthusiasts. I think we can all appreciate that being part of a BMX collecting community and sharing info has benefited all of us in many ways. However at the same time Im sure they guys with 100's of bikes might also feel like exposing the entire collecting might open them up to constant pestering by other people (not to mention I doubt many insurance companies would add 100+ collectable bicycles to you household policy free of charge).  :2funny:

Each to their own, but I do think sharing knowledge within the community is important even if you are not posting a catalogue of what you own.
