Title: Live or let Dye
Post by: Orange777 on June 30, 2012, 09:41 AM
Morning,

As usual I am scrounging help. Have looked through some old posts but the info talks about stuff that seems to either not be available anymore or has changed.

Have a few bits that would like to dye.

Yellow Kashimax that I need black or maybe orange

Rubber on Gen 1 Dyno Fork Standers

Possibly even my White aqua blasted skyways that are more cream (although may try the bleach bath).

Seems to be a mixed bag of results on dyeing. It either looks amazing, does not work or looks shocking.

Dyeing to meet an expert if possible.

Cheers :)

Hi,

I have had them aqua blasted and they are 100% better, but only look about 80%. they have like a weird mottling in some places. At best they are cream spotted and not really white!!

Can recommend the aqua blasting though!!  :daumenhoch:

As the man say's above, i'd be interested in buying you're yellow kashi if it's nos/minty fresh, then you could buy a black or white one ::)

Seems a shame to dye it, pm me if you're interested ;)

Kashi - need to see pic's on what it is like - mint or close will be better sold to raise funds for a black one - if a bit faded or so like, you can dye it black so easy ~ orange may be a bit harder due to other oranges you are trying to match it to (but it can be done )

dyno rubber stands will not dye well - just dis-colours them and looks shite - what colour are they and what are you trying to get to ?

skyways may never go to pure white due to - age - use - sunlight - grease - process use dot clean them in the first place
They will dye - to most colours
the texture is due to the surface being taken off - a sanding down may make it look better and then a dye

hope this helps  :D

Morning Bendycat,

Thanks for the message! I had lined one up to buy so had not actually got in my hand. Seemed a good price at £30.00 but its vanished from eBay....

Looking at these this morning there are loads of black ones, although they are re-release it claims! Do people make snide seats?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=kashimax&_sacat=0&_odkw=kashimaz&_osacat=0

So.............. I have two builds at the moment and one of them needs an Orange Kashi seat (if poss). If I do look at buying to dye, would I be best getting a white one? Totally see point on Black - may as well just try get one on here..... My GT seat that also needs restoring is below!

Dyno rubber is baby blue and these I was trying to get to black. Again another daft purchase and paid over the odds!! Do you think its a non starter?

Thanks for tips on Skyways, we will try that next weekend. Love the wheels, just think they need help! :)
