So with my GT build grinding to a halt due to GT high flange 48 hubs seemingly rarer then rocking horse poop, and the Bennett off at paint, I decided to get stuck into my next project. Ive been looking for a Riot for ages, and after chatting to Dan on here he let me know that he had one that he would be letting go of one in the near future. He finally posted it up on the bay for everyone to have a go at, and much to my surprise I won it for what I thought was a pretty good price. :coolsmiley: So the deal was done and I soon had this in my hands.

Loads of people think these bikes are ugly as sin but I love them. The frame is in pretty good shape but does need a OA bath and a good polish. As soon as I had the bike the hunt for parts for the build began. First thing on my list was bars. I had my heart set on some San Quentin bars but never dreamt Id find a set. Just when I was about to buy something else I stumbled across a set of NOS ones in chrome! The price was a bargain as well so I snapped these up.
Next on the list was a bash guard and new decals for the frame. You cant have a WAL riot without the bash, it just wouldn't be right so I had to have one. Dan said I should get in touch with Ron himself and after a few mails back and forward a NOS Bash guard and a few sets of NOS decals arrived on my door step. :coolsmiley:
Next on the list was a set of Peregrine wheels. I wanted some super pro's but these turned up on the bay and as I was the only bidder I ended up getting them for a fair price. Id still like to get some super pros for the bike at some point but these will do for now. They Suzue / Peregrine hubs laced to some super 7x rims and are in pretty good shape. Im going to give them a clean, regrease the hubs, and then they should be ready to go strait on.
Ive also started gathering a few other bits and pieces to go on the bike. Dan sold me a set of peregrine pedals which is an item I really wanted to go on the build, and the other stuff is just parts I had in the cupboard that I though would work well on the bike. I still have quite a few parts to find but its coming along nicely.

First thing to do is OA bath the frame and put the new stickers on so will update once that is done.

Looking forward to seeing how this comes on dude, really nice frame there!

Cheers for all the comments guys. This and my 1" Holmes build are definitely the 2 builds Im most excited about. Dont think I will be parting with either bike now that I have them. :smitten:

I saw that thread right after the auction ended and decided to lay low until the dust settled haha. To be honest I actually bid a fair bit more then the winning price, so it was Ebay who pipped you by £2.00 not me. :LolLolLolLol: Glad you got a worthy replacement though. Would have been horrid to lose out by so little and not come right at the end of the day. :daumenhoch:

This is another frame on my list! There is one I know of but not heard nothing in ages, you know who you are! Lol:)
-
look cool as , will keep a eye out for final pics

Managed to get the bike soaked in OA last night, then this morning I gave it a polish and applied the new decals. Im so pleased with how this has cleaned up. :smitten: The chrome is definitely rough in patches but overall Im perfectly happy.
After the OA bath looking rather naked.

done a great job jon..great result.

I've got a set of those bars, I think they're really nice bars but don't quite fit with my old school bikes.
-
Cheers for the kind words folks :)
I've got a set of those bars, I think they're really nice bars but don't quite fit with my old school bikes.
I also dont like mixing mid and old school parts on builds. Even if all the bits are good it never looks quite right. They are great bars though, and you dont see them very often even in the mid school scene. :daumenhoch:
-
That is going to be one nice build 8)
-
Few more bits arrived for the Riot.
175mm Redline flights.
And a DK inverted stem.
Stem a bit rough and has had the dreaded polishing treatment but will do nicely until I can find a 2-Hip vise stem. :daumenhoch:
-
lets get some more bits on the frame then fella, can't wait to see this built up
-
Ive been doing quite a lot to this build but due to me travelling loads for work I havent had a chance to update this thread. Today I managed to snap a few pics of the progress so far.
Thanks to a fellow Rad member and a 10 hour round trip I managed to get a lovely set of Super Pro's for the bike. :daumenhoch: I always wanted a set for this build but as we all know nice sets are few and far between. Im really pleased with these though and the semi pros I had will go on my Haro Sport. I also got a set of NOS barefeet tyres for the bike.

I also got all the brakes set up and dialled in.
The drive train is also all set up now so aside from a few finishing touches this build is almost finsihed. 8)

Lookin fine. On my phone so pics o

Cheers guys. :)
Yea WAL Riots are pretty special bikes in my opinion. Not many brands only ever released one frame, and when you take the history of the brand into account they definitely one of the brands that kick started the new wave of rider owned companies. Given that most of them broke and / or had their forks sawn in half they are also becoming pretty hard to find now.
Im trying to get this build finished up so I can get it to MK but still need a few bits to finish it off before that happens.
-
what do you need Jon?
:)
-
what do you need Jon?
:)
Im looking for 4 pegs but am struggling to find something era correct. Ive got a set of standard granades but they far too fat / flat specific. Im after something a lot slimmer. Ideally 2-hip thread on items, or something like S&M PEGS, SBC, etc, etc.
Im also struggling to find a lock nut for one of the peregrine pedals. Im going to see a specialist nut and bolt guy on Tues so hopefully he can sort that out for me. :daumenhoch:
Once those 2 things are sorted it should be ready to roll.
-
I'm fookin jealous, want my old one back now!!! ::) :daumenhoch:
Thanks Robbo. Your old one is definitely one of the best looking Riot builds Ive seen. If mine ends up looking as good as your I will be really pleased.

I must say i really like this , the chrome looks really well in the pics , top job :4_17_5:

wish I could stop looking at this!
pmd Jon ... hope you can help :)

Cheers Darren. The chrome isn't as good as it looks in the pics, but it did polish up better then I expected. Im going to see if I can get my hands on some of this Peek stuff everyone talks about and see how it comes up with that.
wish I could stop looking at this!

PM replied to. :)

Looks really nice, and the coloured doors in the back ground compliment the colour scheme of the bike perfectly.

Very nice and great pics :daumenhoch:

fookin awesome :daumenhoch: they are awesome, should have kept mine too ::)
-
Thanks everyone. I drive past those garage doors on my way to work every day, so when I was looking at the finished bike and thinking of a place to take some pics it just popped into my head. Glad you guys like how the pics turned out. :daumenhoch:
-
This looks stunning.
It brings back mixed emotions to me. My one lasted 3 days before the rear end cracked at the dropouts. :'( :'(
Not many about now for that reason. But plenty good enough for ride down the pub on. :daumenhoch:

Yes they had front ends built like tanks and rear ends made of pencils! :LolLolLolLol: Definitely not ideal when you spend all your hard earned money on one. Fortunately this one survived and has now retired to a life of sitting on a stand looking pretty, so not going to be ridden any time soon. :daumenhoch:
-
The rear end would have been ok. If the had welded more of the stay to the dropout. On one side (the non coaster brake mount side) there is only about 4mm length of weld holding the seat stay. :idiot2:
Absolutely bonkers. :(
It's still to painful to talk about! :LolLolLolLol:
-
better than sex
looks awazing Jon... hope its coming to MK :smitten:
( tried to a couple of pms to Ron W to get some decals sent but heard nothing :( )

I've spoke to him ed he still has them and the bash guards! He will get bk to ya!:)

so awesome!!! makes me wish i'd built up my red one now instead of selling it :'(

A pic of my WAL in the mid school line up at MK12. I came to collect my bike after the show and was stoked to see I had received a "highly commended" medal for the bike. :4_17_5:
