So I have recently sold some stuff basically as I am not a rich man, I needed to sell some bikes to fund my new builds.
You have all seen my R&R CR-1, well this is the other bike I have been building and when you see the parts list you will see why I needed to sell some stuff.
This is basically my dream bike, my holy grail if you want.
The first BMX I ever saw when I moved to the US when I was a kid was a full Cook Bros that was in a local bike shop, needless to say I wanted it but never got it, LOL.
So it has only taken me 31 years to finally get that bike.
Here it is in the flesh, a 1981 Cook Bros Pro with a euro bottom bracket and in built chain tensioners.
It is the original chrome on the frame and forks, it also has a early Cook slanted stem, Cook Bros bars, Cook Bros hubs, Cook Bros cranks, Cook Bros padset, Cook Bros seatpost clamp and Cook Bros straight seatpost (and I have a Cook Bros braced layback but I don't like it no matter how much I try).
Other parts are a Spencer alloy rims, leather Kasimax MX, Cycle Pro pedals, Sugino chainwheel, Oury grips, Dia-compe 1020 caliper with DC pre-bent lever.
Oh yeah, customised USA flag/Cook Bros bike stand as I know Ash would be really annoyed if I left it standard ;) ;D
Hope you like it, I love it.
Yes I know that is 2 bikes in chrome that I have produced this year, maybe I am a convert at last :LolLolLolLol:

Thanks for the nice comments fella's.
I know however the chainring is a bit controversial, but I was reading a BMX Action test of the very same frame as this one from bitd and they had the same chainring and I liked the look.

Stunning stunning buid Sean :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5:
Why are the bars bent like that on the crossbar though, is there a reason for it ????
-
Fresh and tasty :smitten:
Tis a killer build dude
-
Now that my friend is a BMX! :4_17_5:

Why are the bars bent like that on the crossbar though, is there a reason for it ????
Andy
Cook Bros said that the reason for the bend in the bars is for perfect lever position, remember when they designed the bars bitd there were a lot of pre-bent levers or 2 fingered ones, so they could be placed correctly without hitting the cross bar.

First of all that is a beautilul bike. A perfect example of the 'technology' of early BMX.
I do not remember when 'pre-bent' levers hit the market but in the early days we bent our own. In the picture below you can see Stu using Redline V bars with a custom bent lever that actually came from a motorcycle. It was longer than the standard brake lever (and much stiffer) and it could be reached easily while being mounted under the cross bar.
I am on the left in the picture and I am using a Dia Comp lever that I bent myself and it is mounted down into that area where the crossbar is bent.

Thank you for your kind words about my bike Dennis, really chuffed that you would like it.
I remember bending levers myself as a kid (well my Dad did it for me really, LOL).
That is such a cool shot of you bitd.

Cool as hell Sean :4_17_5: rubber stamped by Dennis Dain too - not bad mate :daumenhoch:

:smitten: :smitten: very nice :4_17_5:

Absolutely stunning :smitten: :smitten:
One of my earliest memories of BMX lust, having seen one in 'Alpine Sports' in Kensington (circa 1979), i remember feeling quite cheated with my Redline mx2 :'(
Way ahead of their time, design icon.

Simply stunning! :4_17_5:
I saw a CBR bmx for sale sometime ago but didnt realise what it actually was then? I thought it was kinda special though as the chap wanted $8000 for it
-
Very nice Sean :daumenhoch: , good work ;)
-
Loved Cook's bitd and this is just Stunning :smitten:
Well done Sean :4_17_5:
-
Well firstly I's like to say... Great stand :coolsmiley: ;D It's about time you lot started to follow the trend of pimping your stands ::)
Anyway back to the bike, Awsome classic looking Cook Bros Sean :4_17_5: You know I'm a fan of these (must be to have 2 of them ^"^) but they are serious pieces of work. Massive pedigree from BITD and you've got this build bang on, as I told you a while ago the chain ring's not my thing but it's exactly how you wanted it and straight from the mag. The yanks would be very proud of this one pal :4_17_5:
-
SEAN you nailed it :coolsmiley:
Super cool build and one anyone would love to own :smitten:
WOODY :daumenhoch:
