Title: Do you have your stash insured?
Post by: WINI on August 02, 2012, 08:15 PM
Just noticed this week that cycles weren't covered on my house insurance  ::)  So got on to the insurance company to get my bikes added to the policy.  I have by no means the biggest or most expensive collection in the world (I averaged out around £5k over 9 bikes) but my premium went more than double!  Told em I wasn't happy with that, got put through to sales who tailored me a new policy which came out at around £25 a year more than I was paying, and I get a £50 cashback!

Make sure your pride and joy is insured boys, and don't take the first quote as the best they can do  :daumenhoch:

OK if you have insured your bikes on your house policy please please understand that they are probably not covered

Any bike that you insure on your home policy will if stolen be replaced with another bike. if your bike is a collectible 80s ride then they will wriggle out by saying you needed to insure it as  a collectible with a pure replacement value not a replacement bike
SO CALL THEM AND ASK WHAT THE POLICY WILL DO TO REPLACE  A STOLEN BIKE
You will then need to supply the make colour of each bike with a replacement cash value. Ensure that they note on a separate listed  schedule each bike that fact that they are vintage collectibles and they will pay out to the declared value.

Only when you have this will your bikes be insured , if you need to claim you will still need to show the prices by example, but they will pay out in cash and not a 2012 BMX

it took weeks to sort mine out and i had the broker of nationwide insurance on the phone going over and over my requirements and making sure i had it nailed.

What about insuring them away from the property if you take em out for a ride a to a show? I'm guessing that has to be clear from the start too?  Mmmmmmmm, must get mine insured!!!   :-[

Yep, that is a extra too with most policies I think.  I got a couple put on rather than the lot  :daumenhoch:
