Title: ID on a bmx that you can't see yet - need help working it out please >> pic's up
Post by: BENDYCAT ELEVENTEEN on August 18, 2012, 01:42 PM
Mate of mine/neighbour from down the road has just popped round and shown me a picture of a bmx on his i-phone
One of the gardens he does has a bmx in the shed - the guy says it's his from back in the day and he got it second hand bitd

He says it's a REDLINE - now i only got a few minutes to study it

don't know too much about redlines so i'm hoping you lot can help work out which one it could be

chrome frame
has the what i call bottoma style forks or what i think is the 600a fork
one piece crank
victor or shimano pedals
sugino stem
mx 1000s
araya or ukai rims
unknown seat
black bars

this is what i could see, as the bike was in the back of a shed

he is going to send me the picture over via e-mail but i don't know when - so just wanted to see if any one could work it out ?

parts seem to around the 80's (83-85?)
now one bit that i think i saw on the frame was at the seat post / brake stay tubes - it was a little triangle gusset pointing up and fill the bit where the tubes meet - had a look on some redlines and it seems only a few have this bit ? would this narrow it down

can anybody give me a list of what it could possible be please

will show pic when i get it

the guy is asking around £100 for it ?

cheers B  ;)

are the 100 and 600's the only ones to have the gusset tab at the rear and the forks with the tubing past the wheel nut ?

800 has different forks

Right my mate just brought it round

worse than i thought but not as bad as nothing

Frame - it's been sprayed silver but looks free of dents and so - but this also most likely means the frame has been keyed to take the paint - so it won't be a simple striping off the paint for the chrome  ::)
Forks - look clean and no scrapes down the side that i can see - no end caps
Stem - little worn in colour but clean shape
Crank - worn but clean
chain ring and spider - clean - chain needs a clean to see
DC seat clamp - clean couple of marks
Brake caliper - 1000A (copy dc mx) needs cleaning up
seat post - painted thick black ?
Bars - unknown and painted thick black - for some bloody reason they are cut down from 26" to 25" ? but only on one f'ing side  ??? so will need to be cut to 24" - any one know what they are ?  :-\
Seat - shite and off a racer bike
Lever - cheap MTB shite
Headset - unknown at mo
Tyres - Cheng shin whitewalls - good to fair - plenty tread but need cleaning up
Wheels - Ukai rims shinny side - suzue hubs - good condition need clean and polishing side up - freewheel has the word GEARS on it ?
Pedals Shimano DX - good to fair

yup the rear has the gusset tap - that's why i thought it was a 102b or 600a - and the blue bits gave it away after some research

I would say that's a 1983 600a with original wheels, stem brakes and crank set. £40 is taking the piss.

Bars look like alloy hi-rise bars - Race Inc / FMF  :daumenhoch:

Interested if you are getting rid as I could use another set  :)

Yes.

Well Race Inc manufactured at least. They were not stickered when I got them and Race Inc made bars for themselves and for FMF and mongoose etc. etc.

But yes for all intents and purposes mine are Race Inc. hi-rise bars  :daumenhoch:

I had them re-anno'd and put them on my 1980 supergoose 1 :
