Post by: not johndub71 on August 18, 2012, 03:14 PM
Got my bits to make the skyways work which Mrs W ordered me last night from Winstanleys.

Brake blocks remind me of Eagle Claws fro rmountain bikes.
Dicta FW because I've got one on now and it works ok.
DB axle convertors.

nice  :daumenhoch:   cant beat rolling round on a set of tuffs,     funny as i've got the same parts floating round in the back of me van in a bag from a time when i tried to sell some tuffs :LolLolLolLol:

just a small thought with the axle converters ,( great product by the way use em myself  :daumenhoch: ),    the older style tuffs may have 3/8ths 24tpi axles , the converters are 3/8ths 26tpi not sure if they do 24tpi ones?,   be ok though if they are new seled bearing tuffs, also  useually have to take off the cone lock nut and use the converter as a lock nut for the cone nut , if you follow me ?   :LolLolLolLol:      tuffs are ace if a little bendy  :LolLolLolLol:

I checked with winstanleys first, and they said any axle convertor would work. I do remember the old thread being a pain in the arse back in the day tho. Some other convertors appear to slide over the axle, so If they were 24 tpi, drill out the threads and slide over the axle and hope theres enough interference to keep em tight. Bit like brake discs on cars now loose on the hub that tighten when you put the wheels on.
These are the latest tuffs so I would hope its a standard thread on the axles. Fingers crossed. saying that I did fit a WTP chainring for the new three peice cranks on my old excaliber one piece so challenge accepted.

Flex, I prefer forgiving lol as the skiers say.  :D

Bar humbug!!!

The new Tuff 2s with their smoother than the prom queens thighs bearing are still a lovely 24 tpi on the axles. I did get some cheaper convertors what just slide over similar to Andys nuts. PITA.. More gutted the box didnt have a smell inside to it. Wanted that new skyway smell :-(

Having a tinker and noticed a clunk down drop out area. Anyways, these axle adaptors are good, but not good enough for my gt forks. Ended up drilling 1mm out of the db screw on axle convertors and got cranking on and the front is now 15mm. Rear is ok, but spacing the front with washer knocked the wheel alignment out. Guess thats the warranty foobarred lol.

There's a good 4mm gap either side of cone nuts and the chain tensioner has a 15mm boss so it slides in good and also takes the space up. Works ok.

so long as it works mate thats all that matters  :daumenhoch:.
the gap might have been where it had 14mm axles on before the tuffs.

I think so. I've just wrestled the other set of threaded axle converters on the rear. The wheel fits perfect and the chain pullers are now on the right side.
